I haven't heard the album sad But interestingly, this cover used to freak me out when I was a kid. At 12, I couldn't figure out who or what Rick was. I was a HUGE KISS fan and Rick's outfit looks quite a bit like Peter Criss' on Destroyer. So, needless to say, I was intrigued. I have to hear this one.
Is this on CD? I may have to track down a vinyl copy.

I ran a thread about this album and KISS's Destroyer album covers and how Rick, who was a KISS fan, definately bit off of KISS's album. Not only the Destroyer album cover but KISS's Love Gun album as well. But u can clearly see Rick's pose is the same as Gene Simmons and the outfit is an obvious bite. When I was a kid, I used to have the two albums hanging on my wall, side by side. But uh, yeah, the runaway track on this album is "Bustin' Out". The Bootsy-inspired bassline with the envelope filter Mutron, is through the roof. Classic funk cut that's so serious, even today, black radio is scared to fuck with it. They can barely play "Mary Jane".

Rick also had a few folks working for him that had worked for Kiss also.

Perhaps Rick could have been a member of KISS? lol Imagine them having a black member of the band.

Funny u should say that. KISS almost had a black member in their band. In a Gene Simmons book, Gene talks about this. Before they took Ace Frehley, a guitarist auditioned for them and everyone in the band was blown away by his talent. Soundwise, he was perfect. Obviously, they passed on him, and as Gene said, was because he was black and they didn't think it would fit in their image. Shortly after passing on him, Gene has said that he thought that it would have indeed worked with him being black, since they all wore character makeup anyways. He went on to say that there were times where a few people actually thought that Gene himself was black when he wore the makeup during the 70's.

Wow,thanks for the info.Btw,did you know that Gene Simmons was dating Diana Ross (!!) in the late 70s? Amazing, huh? You wouldn't think that he was her type, lol.

Motown seriously needs to release Rick's old albums on CD! Instead of all these pointless compilations, why don't they release every album from 'Come And Get It' to 'Cold Blooded' on CD?! Add bonus tracks,remixes,12" versions, etc.

What's wrong with Motown??

They always screw up the Rick James compilations. There are several on the market, but none of them seem to have all the hits! There's always two or three songs missing. For example,I have two different compilations and neither one contains "High On Your Love",even though it was a single back in 1979.

I love that song (69 times)! And it was put on at least two compilations, Rick James Anthology and Bustin Out - the very best of Rick James.

But I agree also, I would love to have Fire it Up, Throwin' Down, Cold Blooded, etc. on CD.

Then I could have songs like Throwin' Down, New York Town, etc....

I have 'Cold Blooded' on CD.But it's an old copy from the 80s.It seriously needs to be remastered. It's a shame the way Motown/Universal are ignoring his catalog.
