What artist do you think Jimi would have loved? I was just listening to the 12" version of Rasberyy Beret and all of sudden in my head I could hear Jimi doing a cover of it. I heard jimi in his trademark dylan esq singing style " so I put her on the back of my bike and we went riiiiding!"
I always did wonder what it would be like to hear Jimi cover Prince songs if he had lived, like Purple Rain. I think Jimi would have loved Prince just like Miles did. What artist do you think Jimi Hendrix would have been into if he had lived?

Jazz/Fusion cats. He and Miles Davis would've been hangin' tight if they could keep the manglers...aah...managers out of the way. Well, he seemed to appreciate more R&B sounds towards the end, so I think he might have liked Parliment Funkadelic. I always imagined that he'd sound a lot like their earliest stuff.
Also, Prince, Robert Randolph, maybe Outkast?

good question..
Prince Shuggie otis Stevie Wonder's peak years..(music of my mind,talking book, innervisions)... P funk and Michael Jackson..(he used to talk about enjoying simpler poppy types of music as well as Heavy stuff...I think he was open minded enough to realize that like he was into elvis and little richard as a child..other children and casual music listeners would appreciate the artistry of someone like a michael jackson during his peak years...1979-1988)

I doubt he would have liked Prince;
he'd label him a "no-talent ripoff mutha-fukka" Of course Prince would not need to exist if Jimi lived long enough to appreciate him. test

Any books you specifically recommend? You mean books about Jimi? 'romm full of mirrors' is the most well reasearched book ever. The author spent four years and over 300 interviews putting it together. People who had never spoke before to anyone discussed the REAL jimi. If you think jimi was a great guy though prepared to be shocked at the real man he was. Miles wrote his autobiography which pretty much explains why alot of people think he's a piece of shit.

I judge neither of them by their personal lives.....but as artists they are both at the top of my list and I admire their talent.....
Thanks for the book suggestion! "Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them humanity cannot survive."

room full of mirrors is a great book. one chapters mentions Jimi and Miles jamming together in a room with the doors closed, from a third person perspective, and the person listening said it sounded amazing.

I can imagine it did....
You know how sometimes people find boxes in storage rooms or attics of old recordings...whatcha bet there are recordings somewhere of them jamming.... Let's hope whoever find them will share... "Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them humanity cannot survive."

Since you're so concerned with musician's personal lives that's probably the only way you're ever gonna be totally happy with an artist. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. Regarding Miles, this would be a good place to start... ...Miles The Autobiography Just read these 2 recently... ...Miles to Go & Running the Voodoo Down This has always been my favorite Hendrix book... ...Crosstown Traffic That's if you're interested in their music and not their personal lives of course. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. Ghandi beat his wife! you sure are dumb Not sure which one of us you've aimed your comment at but i'll gladly respond. You see I give less than a damn about an entertainer's personal life. I prefer to find my role models closer to home (parents, relatives, etc.) The music industry is the last place i'd be searching for paragons of virtue. My main concern is that they're good musicians, what they do off-stage is their business. But if you get off looking up every artist's rear end...Happy Tunnel Vision. Btw, I love Penn & Teller. Have you already done the research and given them a clean bill of health morally? tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. Sonny Sharrock, especially his 'Guitar' and 'Ask the Ages' albums.
Bob Marley, I suspect, Jimi would have dug also. Lee 'Scratch' Perry Much of what Bill Laswell has released. Mahavishnu Orchestra, especially original line-up. Santana, esp. in the seventies. Frank Zappa in general, as he was another composer/ guitarist/ producer. Early Public Enemy and many more!

What I am noticing about all the various lists: most of the artists mentioned were his peers....their paths possibly crossed on numerous occasions.....and he probably was a fan of several.
Carlos Santana and Bob Marley... Frank Zappa. I can imagine Jimi enjoying their music. Unfortunately, it is all just guessing. Good suggestions. "Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them humanity cannot survive."

Doesn't he predate Jimi in using "fuzz" Im sure he really dug Santana while he was still alive, both played woodstock. But I know what you mean, he would have really like 70's Santana as well.
