This is how you know the charts are pretty bogus. Paulina Runio selling 23,000 of her new (amazing) cd, how come in the soundscan era Latin albums werent making this kind of impact with debuts. Artists like Rubio,Thalia,Shakira were selling tons of albums for a long time and yet when they would have a number 1 latin album they wouldnt even chart on the 200?

Well thats the way the industry runs things, its all about week 1-3 numbers, if you dont make it during that time you are through. Basically these albums/artists are so hyped up that if you want you go buy it during the first week, so if U see Justin has dropped 70%, Beyonce the same, and most of the high debuts are like that, pretty much whoever wanted the record has already bought it. I think what would be a more interesting thing would be how consistent a release can be. A remember a few years back i was involved in some work with Universal, and we had to track to new releases from smaller artists, one of the ones i picked were "The Jayhawks", this record basically didnt spend any chart time at all on the 200, but it managed to Soundscan close to 150,000 units in about a 12 week span, which is great for an artist with no video/radio play. In weeks 4-12 it pretty much maintained a 2-4,000 a week of sales. I dont think people realize that alot of albums dont chart but sell just as well, but at a much slower pace.

I understand your point but i have to disagree on that one, these are 3 women that are totally in charge of what they do, from the stage to the studio. And their staying power too should be admired, the fact that Paulina and Thalia have both be going since the middle 80's, its hard to stick around if you arent in charge

Um...Maybe that's the case for Paulina and Thalia, but Skakira is a pretty talented chick...Besides the fact that she writes her own material and plays guitar, before breaking in the US she was looked at more as a singer-songwriter...Do a little research on her....

In this envoirnment, the fact that Beyonce is still in the Top Ten is impressive (even though the numbers for the Top ten are not). Christina's fall doesn't surprise me. It's not a commerical album and while both Beyonce and Justin are touting second singles (Janet, too), Christina is still holding on to her first...might be a good move because the album can rebound for Christmas with a big hit single around that time. Got love the strategy of it all, I guess.

Well, her 2nd single is "Hurt" (ballad performed @ VMAs) but it's not really catching on that quickly. It's gonna be interesting seeing what singles she's gonna pick for this album, there's not many hits there. A better choice would've been "Understand"IMO, that song seemed to get the biggest response amongst fans & non-fans alike.

Has she released the second single to radio, and all?

I think a better bet would be the upbeat tracks, no?

Personally, Im glad that Justins no.1 for a second week. It's a good pop album by someone whom, at the very least, is a proven star. It'll be interesting to see how the album holds up next week with Janet releasing her album. It might drop for that reason. But the sales figures will still be kinda high.

Beyonce's drop doesnt surprise me much. Response to Ring The Alarm hasnt been terribly great, and Beyonce has become a bit overexposed as of late.

Christina's dropping also, and Im not surprised just based on the fact that she's still focusing on Aint No Other Man and not on Hurt(steam for ANOM has gone down). Whether this is just poor ass marketing or good marketing to give the album longevity remains to be seen. If it does turn out to be a clever marketing trick, its gonna be interesting to see how this album does.

Gotta jump in here....Shakira..though these days comes off as another pop tart with blond hair....she started out as a great singer songwriter....her first 2 albums PIEZ DELCALZOS and DONDE ESTA LOS LODRONES are proof...before she fled the latin world to Epic Records and released albums for the masses she was someone to watch for sure....she broke ground for sure and now it makes me sad to see her shake her ass on video but I do appreiceate her for who she was before 2001. I'm not a fan of her English work personally but she has made extraordinary music in Spanish....go back a few years and listen! 'Hips Dont Lie' would be a bad dream!

i think his stuffs just as gimmick-y as alot of so called mainstream music on the charts. dont get me wrong i do like some of his stuff but its very much on a formula(kanyes and pharrell's lol). kick push was different but nothing that hasnt been touched on before.
