I have listened to both and I perfer this new cd to Damita Jo.
This one seems really put together and more focused. It reminds me of her "Janet" CD of a few years ago. Every CD since that one just seemed to "commercial"...When she sampled Change's " Glow of love", I thought that she had lost her mind. I just might go out and buy this one. With a different tracklisting, "Damita Jo" would be a great Janet album, beating out "20 Y.O" and "All For You" and maybe even "RN1814" (because familarity breeds contempt). Damita Jo Lookin' For Love Damita Jo Just A Little While Put Your Hands On The One/Truly Thinkin About My Ex Like You Don't Love Me Part of Me (that part after "Like You"...feels like an interlude) All Nite (Don't Stop) Slo Love Moist I'm Here Love Me For A Little While (bonus track) 11 full tracks, just like "20 Y.O". All kiler, no filler (actually, "Truly" is kind of filler, but it can't be perfect)! I'd add "Island Life" to that listing. I don't see it on your preferences, but I really loved that song and Janet's vocals were great. I'd also add R&B Junkie and Strawberry Bounce. See.. certain songs just appeal to different people.. But definitely a lot of people seemed to like "Island Life." 20 Y. O. is actually growing on me each time I listen to it. Now I really like With U.. I tell you the only song I skip over is "Call on Me." I think I'm just bored with that song because out of them all, that's the one that's gotten the most airplay. I do think that 20 Y. O. is actually quite a creative effort even though it has been difficult for me to appreciate right off the bat. I'm very happy that Janet is probably going to debut at #1.

I just wish I could put "Love Me For A Little While" on the copy I have, too.

It's not awful...it's just an awfully mixed bag. I hated "Island LIfe" and wanted to like it because of Cathy Dennis. It was so dull as dish water from the one that recorded the ablum "Move To THis" and wrote hits like "Can't Get You OUt of My Head". Everyone has their preferences. Janet's vocals were nice on it, though. As for debuting at number one, I guess Ludacris is the favorite (I'm sure MTV is promoting the hell out of that, too). His single, for some reason, is number 2 on the charts!

Damita Jo is a great album but because of SB people automatically dismiss it as being bad even though they have never heard it. I’m guilty of doing that with other artists. I automatically think that "Glitter" is Mariah's worst effort without actually hearing the album, same with "Invincible" and "American life". I bet half the people on this forum haven't bothered to listen to "Damita Jo" yet they are quick to review it as overtly explicit and desperate based on a review they read where SB is referred to more than the music.
However I do understand why 20YO is getting more love, it is more fresh and experimental than DJ and its more of a grower. At the moment I still prefer DJ because Janet wasn't trying to hard to follow musical trends, she was sticking to what she knew best which could be argued as bland by some critics. But an album doesn't need to be groundbreaking to be enjoyed.

I think actually since Renee left, Janet & Jimmy Jam/ Terry Lewis stopped growing as artist.
He had allot to do with that group. She is still decent, but her albums are not growing. They are solid, but not growing like she had under the Renee Era

DJ was wildly experimental, wtih euro dance pop and rock on a few tracks. Not typical Janet. It worked at times, too.

i've never heard Janet do a song like "show me" or "get it out me". Where R&B, hip hop and 80's dance are fused together.

I loved slowlove Who didn't?An album like that would've been tiring to say the least, but why not work with those guys again on a few tracks? Hopefully in the future. I don't know a lot of fans who didn't at least like "Slo Love" and love "All Nite".
