LO-KEY - I Gotta Thang 4 Ya

http://youtube.com/watch?v=pXL5jClVDUQ

Finally something popped up @ YouTube , although not the entire clip .
This vid was the first i saw from them .
The famous falcetto-voice of their funk-influences can clearly be recognised .

My pleasure SexyBeautifulOne .
The first leadsinger in the vid and in the upper-pic , Prof T , was working along with Jam & Lewis on some projects the last few years . He did some more executive work with them .
He's a cool dude who posted on a UK soul forum , about 3 years back .
He told about a reunion-concert which was gonna happen that summer .
I've read some reviews about that , and it must have been a ball .
From what i remember it was around the area of Frisco .

Yeah this very confunkshun like song came from their first album
which i bought on cassette was one of the jams of 1999. They
had another hot one from that album called sweet on you which was hot too.
Their second cd back to da howse was better than the first one but none of
the singles made waves on the radio. Tasty from the second album was very
confunkshun like too. This album had a nice blend of funk and ballads on it.
So if you guys are ever in the 5 dollar bend at your local radio store i
recommend this one if you can find it.
Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint

I remember this like it was yesterday. It was the second single off the debut (the first being "Attention: The Showanda Story"). This is easily my favorite track of theirs. music

Word!
I was thrilled opening the celluloid from the brand new copy i bought when it came out .
All their tributes ( Slave , Ohio Players , Isley Brothers , Con Funk Shun ) have been "pleaded guilty" by them for using as influence lol , written in the cd-booklet .
And those newspapers with ads like "CAMEO live @ The Ozone" which they had custom-made for the cd-cover are very cool .
Forgot to mention that their keyboardist Lance Alexander was a driving spill behind the later group NEXT . I thought , when at first hearing "Too Close" on a local soulstaion , that it had to be LO-KEY lol
Another slamming composition/production from LO-KEY's Lance & Prof is the uplifting Everytime I Get Up from Alexander O'Neal .

Their first album is a classic. i do have their followup somewhere aswell?

First half is standard newjack, second half, after a few midtempo's, are those lush slowjams, that were different to then typical slowies like h-town, jodeci etc.... they were more sincere.

fav tracks are "hey there pretty lady" "stay awhile" (killer bridge), title track, "shawanda story", "milkshake", but my fav is "dont you know by now". I lvoe the guitar solo on that one.

They help on a few of the tracks off the "Mo' money" soundtrack. "lets just run away" by Johnny gill is a firm fav, and sounds just like 'em.

nod
All 2gether with Sounds Of Blackness , Raja-Nee and maybe a few others on Perspective Records .
I remember an MTV-special where Jam & Lewis could vj their fave clips .
When a Mint Condition-clip came on , it was announced and stressed by them as " a video done by a band .
So this was around the mid 90's and showed that Urban "bands" were already to get extinct in that era .
Terry also proudly introduced a clip from his wife , Karyn White ... " Here's my honey with Hungah , ... HUNGAH ! " he yelled lol
