Jam Of The Day: "Walk Right Now" by The Jacksons

This is a jam from my favorite album of any of The Jackson family. Michael was much better with the group because this jam is absolutely funky, none of that pop bullshit. Anybody into this jam?

One of the few disco songs I'll probably ever love. One of the best tracks off "triumph"

"Time Waits for no one" was the best song on that album. Just beautiful. I too believe MJ is better with his brothers. Apart from OTw and Thriller, most of his best songs are with J5.

He tends to be less cheesy and more soulful/funky when he is with his brothers.

I've long believed that MJ's peak run was Destiny, Off the Wall and Triumph, with Triumph being my favorite of the three. Thriller is good but far too poppy for my tastes. As vainandy said, MJ was funky and soulful during that time period, something his music lost during post-Triumph. I was listening to Triumph a few days ago and as always the album blows me away. Walk Right Now, Heartbreak Hotel, Give It Up, Your Ways, Everybody and Lovely One are top shelf tracks. Great, great record!

True. From 78 to 82, he was on a flow of classic album after classic album, with or without the Jacksons. You can hear it in the music; spontaneous, funky and soulful. From Bad onwards when he started to release albums every 4 to 5 yrs his music started to sound so sterile and contrieved, you can tell that flow just wasn't there anymore. Which is not really surprising when you are releasing albums every 4 yrs or so.

"Give It Up" and "Time Waits For No One" are great also.

Although his live-work still had that drive ( imo ) .

Love that whole album to death! Even the weakest cut Wondering Who is pretty funky. Definitely MJ's peak. I place it over both Off The Wall and Thriller.

Oh Hell yeah!! Time Waits for No One, Heartbreak Hotel, Lovely One etc. Yes Mike was kickin' on all cylinders. With the exception of Billie Jean I thought this album was much better than Thriller. However, Off The Wall is his greatest feat IMO.

Mjs peak or his brothers....

This really was a JACKSON album. It wasn't all Michael.

I've always liked him better with his brothers.

Whatever, I prefer it to any of Michael's solo albums. I think he probably made just as much a contribution to Triumph as he did to Off The Wall which was largely Quincy Jones's work.

I never really cared for this song. About half the songs on this album are just...OK. Now Destiny ? worship That's my favorite. Not a bad moment on it.

Most definately. I love the Jackson 5 but the stretch you mentioned from "Destiny" through "Triumph" is my favorite also. I never saw what all the fuss was about "Thriller" and the albums following it. I thought they were good albums but nothing compared to these other albums. They just lacked.....well.....funk. lol

That was either the fall or winter of 1980. Disco officially supposedly "died" in 1979. biggrin I can see why you would mistake it for disco though. It has that great energy and fun that the disco era had.

After having such a huge success with "Thriller", it's obvious that he's trying to achieve success with the same formula....getting two or three guest artists on the album and hoping for a MEGA smash. Every song starts sounding like it was done for the sole purpose of becoming a smash hit single instead of being a piece of one project that connects and flows well. He started trying too hard for a huge hit. It's like he became more of a business man than an artist.

Was this album really that good. This Place Hotel is one of my
jackson favorites along with can you feel it and show you the way
to go. I remember seeing the Jacksons essentials online a few months
ago but it had not yet been released. I will check on it.

Love the song and i´ts dramatic mood.
"When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."
