Bela Fleck I heard Bela Fleck on NPR this morning on my way to work....
I am ashamed to say I always assumed his sound was 'blue-grass-ish' simply because he plays the banjo...ignorqant of me, I know. Do any of you know of the best CD of his that would primarily showcase his jazz influence? I know he can be diverse, so I am cautious....and if it at all tends towards the twangy....

I don't know a whole lot about Bela Fleck (and the Flecktones), but his music is heavily jazz-influenced. There's bluegrass in there, too and you shouldn't be afraid of it.  I have albums that he guests on, but the only album of his I own...

Lots of jazz, no twang. That's a great album!!!! The first 3 were wonderful. Pianist/harmonica player Howard Levy departed after the third. They lost something, to me, when he left but have continued making great music. I just felt his solos and the composition of the first 3 albums a lot more. Wonderful playing on all of them, though. | |

I'll have to check the other two out, because I really like this one. Fleck was a big influence on another of my favorite, Nickel Creek. They just broke up, which makes me a bit sad, but the three of them are fantastic musicians. | |
