Sting slams Beyonce and Timberlake's soulless music

Washington, Sept. 23 (ANI): Beyonce Knowles and Justin Timberlake's songs may have topped music charts on a regular basis, but British rocker Sting feels that their compositions are too commercial to impress him.

He says that he finds understanding the music composed by today's artists very difficult.

"Today's music is not designed for me. I don't understand a Beyonce or Justin Timberlake," Contactmusic quoted him as telling PageSix.com.

The former 'Police' frontman says that an artist should make such music that can give a "spiritual" experience to the listeners, rather than aiming to top chart positions and record sales.

And, as far as his voice is concerned, Sting feels that his vocals have become more mature with the course of time.

"For me, singing is a spiritual journey. I'm devoutly musical. As for my voice, I'd say it's become more mature.Encrypted with life, it's developed texture," he says.

Sting also says that he is very particular about adding "organic" sounds to his music, and that is the reason why he shunned a studio for the recording of his lates album 'Songs From The Labyrinth'.

"This particular album I made in our home in Tuscany. I don't ork in any thematically soundproofed room. I like ambient noises fire crackling, birds singing, church bells. It's organic," he ays. (ANI)

I agree with the sentiment, but he had Mary J. Blige's horrible singing on his last album. disbelief

I would've preferred Beyonce, and I can't stand her music.

I personally don't consider sting's music to have soul hmph!

But I agree with him about Beyonce and JT. It's just pop music, no soul involved.

Sting's music definitely has imagination & emotion, or at least a lot of it has, that meets my definition of soul.

Sting is absolutely correct. Now, if we could only get him to convince Prince to stop wasting his time going to see the Pussy Cat Dolls perform, we'd be laughing. Sometimes Prince has horrible taste in music.

I may agree with him but Sting calling anyone soulless is more than a tad ironic.

I doubt that he was there for the music. In fact, If you'd read the article closely, it says that he was wearing ear plugs giggle

I love Sting, but he really does need to get over himself. Did he say his voice was "encrypted with life"... ????

lol Lawdy.

His last 2 albums have been total and complete crap, in my opinion. His last good record was "Mercury Falling."

I suspect this kind of arrogance helped The Police propel to stardom, then ultimately implode.

I understand what Sting is saying---and I tend to agree. However, the dude needs to get over himself. When is the last time he released a song that made people get off their ass and dance? I love listening to Sting--he makes tea drinking music.

And, correct me if I am wrong, isn't this the same dude who starred in a car commercial set to his song "Desert Rose"? Sting you are just as much a sell out as most rock stars.....

Its funny how we all jump on STING for his comment and yet this all i have heard for months is the ragging on Beyonce and Justin for being nothing more than studio creations, and hear someone echoes our opinions and we trash him.

I think Sting is very soulful, to me soul is not a color but the risks u take with your craft, imagination, and all of that is SOUL. Annie Lennox has 1000 times more Soul than Ciara, but in a record store CIARA is in the Soul section and Annie is in Pop. I think Sting was not really knocking the talent of beyonce or justin, just in the way the music was put together and made, and he's 100% correct with his statement.

Sure he can, i mean i hate the fact that he sold out to Puffy to do that tribute to a drug dealer song and ruined one of the greatest songs ever, or the fact that he performed Roxanne with Sean Paul, one of the worst artists ever to come out of dancehall/Reggae. So for those things i have trashed and he should be, just like McCartney should be for almost every solo album he did in the 80's, but his point was that Beyonce and Justins music is souless, hes right.

Does have a new album coming out soon?

Funny he would spotlight Justin & Beyoncé out of the bunch.

That stupid "Brand New Day" song is also being used as the theme song to The Today Show (or one of those morning shows).
