I love gladys Knight and I'm sure this is a good album, but I have to wonder...

What's up with all these cover albums?? Chaka Khan recently did a CD like this,as did Patti LaBelle and Diana Ross. And today,Natalie Cole releases a cover album too.I love all of these ladies...they can sing practically anything and it would sound good. But,for once,I wanna hear an album of ALL NEW songs from them!

I know what you mean nod Honestly, i was a little dissapointed with Natalie Cole`s song choices neutral
BUT if Gladys were to record songs familiar to what she did for the "At last" album, we`ll be better off with this... lol (funny about that album though, she recorded the Etta James song, which turned out to be the title of the album, yet the song only appeared on the japanese version... confused )

btw, did you listen to the samples from Diana Ross` new album that i posted a few days ago? It sounds good, especially the song "Remember"

I agree,I'm tired of covers albums!! mad

I wonder if it's the record labels that are pushing them to do this? Maybe they're looking at the success of Rod Stewart, thinking "you can do this too".

hmmm

I was about to point the Rod Stewart connection.

Its a safe market, there's no loss in doing "cover" albums. Easiest way to make money.

yeah, that's what I was thinking.Record labels are just trying to spend as little money as possible. They're using a "play-it-safe" approach.

Cuz no one is writing good songs anymore. Nothing for them to sing.

Smokey Robinson also made a standards album recently, i haven`t heard it, but the tracklist is good, he sings "Speak low", "Fly me to the moon" and the beautiful "Night and day" cloud9

Some standards albums can be very good, Carly Simon`s four (!) collections of classics are all beautifully done, and i LOVE Dionne Warwick`s "Tribute to Gershwin", which also includes a WONDERFUL rendition of "Night and day"
