Roxanne Shante was and still is the true queen of hiphop...her old vinyl stuff is a bit hard to get these days....I think I still have that battle album with Sparky D. somewhere on tape.
She is a psychologist these days. The funny thing is that back in the days when UTFO and the socalled "Real" Roxanne ( in fact there were two "Real" Roxannes) first started this whole Roxanne saga they didn´t even know Roxanne Shante..it was all a bit of a big misunderstanding. Shante had some great punchlines. And I liked the ruff beats on most of her records. She also rapped on Rick James´s "Lucy`s Rap"..( or Loosey ?) " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

You can't compare Roxanne Shante and Missy Elliot.
Although Shante wasn't the first female rapper, Roxanne Shante was rap's first female superstar and battle MC. She was a ground-breaking artist who paved the way for other female rappers in the late 80's to the present to become a viable part of the rap music world. Missy Elliot is a singer, rapper, songwriter, producer, and entertainer. Her music videos was unique also. Roxanne Shante is the better MC. Missy Elliot is the better artist.

If there were a soundtrack for my childhood, Shante would be features heavily on it! I grew up on her stuff (embarrassingly) breakdancing to her tunes among others.

You know it's funny u mentioned the 2 "Real" Roxanne's alot of people don't even realize they're were 2 in addition to Shante, The first one Elise Jacks who recorded the song "The Real Roxanne" and then came Adelaida Joanne Martinez who actually became the last and final Real Roxanne in the midst of it all. Yeah, that´s right, a lot of people totally forget about the "real" Real Roxanne... I´m oldschool, so I know and I´m familiar with a lot of things that were going on in NYC in the early to mid 80´s though I haven´t been there...because HipHop used to be like an international network back then. Plus I heard it from the horse´s mouth...the Real Roxanne came here in 1986 or 87 and explained it all. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Damn, I didn't know she had so much stuff. I have her two 12 Inches "Roxanne's Revenge" and "Queen Of Rox". I also have "Loosey's Rap" which is her and Rick James. I thought that was all she had done.

Just curious what was the reason she gave (The Original first Real Roxanne Elise) give that Full Force didn't keep her? I am not African. Africa is in me, but I cannot return.
