James Brown, 'In The Jungle Groove' Is this the best James Brown disc, or what? I've just got my hands on it, and for me it is definitely the best JB album out there - even better than the Live At The Apollo stuff I've got.
Any other fans of The Jungle Groove out there? It definitely does what it says on the tin, and all the grooves and beats squeezed together by Bootsy and Clyde Stubblefield put all of todays so-called 'beatmakers' (I'm looking at you Lumberjack, err Timbaland, and you Sparrow...err, Pharrell) to shame. Insanely good. Not songs per-se, but great extended jams. Ain't it funky [Edited 9/19/06 16:18pm]

It's not an album, really. It's a compilation presenting some previously unissued material or alternate takes. But, just like 1988's "Motherlode", it's one of the best JB compilations.

I know, but it might as well be. Most of the JB stuff around nowadays is compilations anyway - it's actually pretty hard to differentiate between the comps and the actual studio albums. If anything, it's all about the compilations with someone like JB.

That release has 2 of my favorite James Brown grooves.
The often ignored It's A New Day and Give It Up Or Turnit A Loose from the 70s Sex Machine album (minus the fake live crowd ). tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."

Like this one Sex Machine http://youtube.com/watch?v=s3N2k1Gj2fU I got the full video of this show ... it's possibly the best James Brown footage ever (his two Soul Train performances come close).

As I have said before, 'Love/Power/Peace' is probably the hardest, meanest, most merciless funk JB ever released. Imo it just kills! James and Bobby Byrd's interplay, Bootsy's super-supple basslines, Catfish's incredible rhythm guitar, the drummer(s). the only weak link is the horns, who sound under-rehearsed (sacrilege for JB, I know!). Anyone who digs James Brown beyond the usual compilations must get this!
