Donna Summer b-sides I know there are many Summer fans here, so i hope you can tell me a little about these b-sides, are they worth getting?

I'll describe each tune...
***"Sometimes Like Butterflies" (1982)---This song appears on the B-side of the "Love Is In Control (Finger On The Trigger)" single.I had the 45 back then but I never cared much for this song.It's a simple piano ballad which Donna co-wrote.She's telling her man not to get too attached to her because she wants to be free...well I told ya,not to fall in love I ain't the kind that you can tie down...Her vocals on this song are kinda weird,to me.The song was covered by Dusty Springfield. ***"Tearin Down The Walls" (1987)---A very fast,busy,late-80s pop/dance track.Appears on the B-side of the "Dinner With Gershwin" single.The song sounds horribly dated these days....tearin' down the walls around your heart....tearin' down the walls around your heart....Not really a top-notch song by any means,but if you're a completist,you may wanna hunt it down. ***"Face The Music" (1984)---the B-side of the "There Goes My Baby" single.It's an uptempo pop track,nothing special.The problem with this song and "Tearin Down The Walls" is,these could have been recorded by anybody.There's nothing fresh or distinctive about these songs. | |

Keep waiting. Apparently "Sometimes" is available on a complition benefit CD from Canada. I've heard them all and "Sometimes" is a very light ballad and is often raved about. She sings in a very babyish voice if I rememebr correctly that builds up at times. "Face the Music" and "Tearin' Down the Walls" are very similar dance pop tracks, with "Face the Music" being either a Quincy JOnes song or from that era. "Tearin' DOwn" is a bit fuknky and more slick. I agree with Soulalive, nothing special for Donna and not distinctive at all. | |

Definately her worst decade with some highlights but certainly nothing that defines her (Other than maybe "She Works Hard..." the single). The stuff she's done in the ninties is OK and her most recent stuff from this deacade is hot as hell ("I Got Your Love", "Beautiful", even the saccrine "Power Of One", which had awesome remixes, etc.). | |

No,Quincy Jones didn't have anything to do with "Face The Music".It's from 1984,a few years after the Quincy Jones-produced album. | |
