I haven't heard the album sad But interestingly, this cover used to freak me out when I was a kid. At 12, I couldn't figure out who or what Rick was. I was a HUGE KISS fan and Rick's outfit looks quite a bit like Peter Criss' on Destroyer. So, needless to say, I was intrigued. I have to hear this one.
Is this on CD? I may have to track down a vinyl copy.

Motown seriously needs to release Rick's old albums on CD! Instead of all these pointless compilations, why don't they release every album from 'Come And Get It' to 'Cold Blooded' on CD?! Add bonus tracks,remixes,12" versions, etc.

What's wrong with Motown??

Some of them are on CD. They are not remastered though. Oh and, you have to pay like 150$ for a copy of Cold Blooded smile

I have this on cd and my favorite joint is SPACEY LOVE.
Bustin out, high on your love,Fool on the street are other
nice joints. I would have to say this is my 3rd favorite
behind coldblooded and street songs. Tight cd anyway.
Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint

One of Rick's best. My favorite from the album is "High On Your Love Suite". The title track is great and "Spacey Love" is one of his best slow jams ever. I've recently been getting to a jam I overlooked for years, "Fool On The Street".

I also love the ending of the album with Rick being picked up in a car by a friend. He gets in and says

It's cold turn on some heat....and the radio too.
We're going on down to the club and bust on out on the funk.
Here, smoke some of this....my man.

I ran a thread about this album and KISS's Destroyer album covers and how Rick, who was a KISS fan, definately bit off of KISS's album. Not only the Destroyer album cover but KISS's Love Gun album as well. But u can clearly see Rick's pose is the same as Gene Simmons and the outfit is an obvious bite. When I was a kid, I used to have the two albums hanging on my wall, side by side. But uh, yeah, the runaway track on this album is "Bustin' Out". The Bootsy-inspired bassline with the envelope filter Mutron, is through the roof. Classic funk cut that's so serious, even today, black radio is scared to fuck with it. They can barely play "Mary Jane".

Perhaps Rick could have been a member of KISS? lol Imagine them having a black member of the band.

Well IT'S ABOUT TIME!!!!! That SOMEONE looked PAST Street Songs and went BACKWARDS to listen!!!!! YES!!!! Bustin Out Of L Seven is one of Rick's greater LP's!!!!! Buffalo, REPRESENT!!!!! But it's the same thing a lotta folks do w/Prince. Purple Rain is the Alpha & Omega for them & they won't look at the artist's work BEFOREHAND!!!!! So I say CHEERS to U for looking above & beyond Street Songs!!!!!
biggrin biggrin biggrin biggrin biggrin biggrin

p.s. Motown should put out a "ballds" collection on Rick. Cuz contrary to Eddie Murphy's line about Luther (R.I.P.) being the "Black Pavarotti", IT WAS RICK!!!!

Funny u should say that. KISS almost had a black member in their band. In a Gene Simmons book, Gene talks about this. Before they took Ace Frehley, a guitarist auditioned for them and everyone in the band was blown away by his talent. Soundwise, he was perfect. Obviously, they passed on him, and as Gene said, was because he was black and they didn't think it would fit in their image. Shortly after passing on him, Gene has said that he thought that it would have indeed worked with him being black, since they all wore character makeup anyways. He went on to say that there were times where a few people actually thought that Gene himself was black when he wore the makeup during the 70's.

A lot of folks love Rick around here. One of my favorite albums is "Fire It Up".

Rick has some of my favorite slow jams such as.....

Hollywood
Spacey Love
Love In The Night
Fire And Desire
Happy
Make Love To Me
Dream Maker
Teardrops
Tell Me What You Want
When Love Is Gone

They don't need to release a ballads collection though because they have enough compilations already. That would only make them take longer to re-release the full length albums. smile

Pre "Street Songs" I like "Fire it Up" and "Come And Get it" along with "Bustin out of L seven", all classics in my opinion (Garden of Love was kind of weak IMHO).

IMO every RJ/Stone City Band/PUNK FUNK album between 1978-1983 is great, you can't go wrong with any of these joints:

Come Get It(1978)
Bustin Out Of L Seven(1979)
Fire It Up(1979)
Wild And Peaceful(1979)
Garden Of Love(1980)
In-N-Out(1980)
Lady T(1980)
Irons In The Fire(1980)
Street Songs(1981)
It Must Be Magic(1981)
The Boys Are Back(1981)
Throwin Down(1982)
ColdBlooded(1983)
Mary Jane Girls(1983)
Out From The Shadow(1983)
Robbery(1983)
