I think I echo John's sentiment. Chuck Berry IS guitar rock. However if you include all of soul/R&B under the umbrella of "Rock & Roll" then it's much tougher to name one artist who encompasses all of it. My pick for that would be Little Richard, who in my mind best represents the piano and brass driven form of rock n roll and the gospel roots of rock n roll which defines Soul music.
