That might be the worst list of nominees I've ever seen! Nick Lachey, Sean Paul, and Kanye West for Best Pop/Rock Male? lol

They can't be serious. disbelief

That's right! The only award show that matters is the Billboard Music Awards.

I believe that was 1992. Anyway, the AMA's started going downhill about 1998, because I specifically remember that as the year of the missing winners. I think that half of the people who won AMA's that year didn't show up. I believe that at the time the awards were broadcast the day after the Super Bowl, and since the Super Bowl is a big celebrity event, a lot of artists just went there instead.

If you check out the history of the AMA's, you'll notice that it was created by ABC as a direct competitor to the Grammys. The Grammys used to be broadcast on ABC until 1973, when CBS outbid them for the broadcast rights. ABC got pissed about this, so they asked Dick Clark to come up with a competing awards show. At the same time Dick Clark created the AMA's, he also created "New Year's Rockin' Eve." party martini

The AMA's never gained the cachet that the Grammys had, but they realy went downhill with the glut of other awards shows (MTV Video Music Awards, Radio Music Awards, Billboard Music Awards, Vibe Awards, The Source Awards, Country Music Association Awards, Academy of Country Music Awards, Latin Grammys, VH1 Big In...Awards, Kids Choice Awards, Teen Choice Awards, etc.).

I think the last time I really lost my shit was when Janet Jackson opened the show with the DJ Premier remix of "Together Again".

Mainly because most of the male rappers have ghost writers as well.

It's the same with female rockers. Look at the current Billboard modern rock top 25 and except for Evanescence, it's all men. Over the last year, you could count the number of women or female fronted acts that charted on that chart on one hand.

Sad but true. As much as beautiful women are everywhere, the competition for quality acting roles, serious music, etc, is pretty slim. Not because the talent isn't there, but those roles simply aren't available.

It hasn't changed since the days of Melissa Ethredge & Tina Turner being the only rock singers to ever win awards.

I didn't see this thread when I searched. I listed all the nominees on another thread. Well to add my two cents here, this is a sorry crop of nominees. I don't care for award shows, so only watch when P is on. I DEFINITELY won't watch this mess. That male R&B category is blasphemous.
