Beyonce doesn't have the BITCH! Attitude that the Grinch had during her motown days. She can sing but does tend to oversing. I just hope she does not become a lost, raving, alcoholic lunatic when she is in her 50's. Fuck Diana Ross noone care a bout her anymore. IT's OVER! blowup

Definitely. eek

I don't see how anyone can hear "Listen" from the upcoming Dreamgirls soundtrack & say she can't tackle a DIVA ballad. That's just BS. It's a big schmaltzy AC power ballad & mama brought it. She can hang on American Idol, this is the kind of song you'd hear on there anyway.

that's bs on Beyonce not being able to sing.

I think Beyonce hasn't sung the DIVA songs to establish her amongst the Whitney's and Mariah's BUT she can sing. If we were talking about Janet, then I would say..ok.

And in every generation, there are plenty of nonsingers with hits...even in the 60's.

Even if you listen to Miss Ross' voice. Its not the strongest if you compare it to her contemporaries like Aretha and Gladys but she can sing.

I think some of ya'll are mixin' your overall hatred of the chyle with her singing ability. She can sing.

and here I go again defending bouncy BUT you have to be fair. There are problems with her image and her song choice and she has the opportunity to establish herself separate from the Cassies and Fergies and Ciaras (even though I sorta like Ciara eek).

I'll agree with you that Beyonce can sing, she just hasn't had a good song to show her talent yet.

How did Ciara come into this, she's sounds worse than Janet or Al B. Sure live, please don't do that again. sad

lol

I have this weird love for Ciara. shrug Its like watching the Last Dragon. You know its a bad movie but you love it.

Even though this is a Beyonce thread, I just have to say that while Diana Ross may not be a great singer, technically speaking, she carries loads of sophistication and character with her voice, and on her solo debut from 1970, Nicholas Ashford and Valerie Simpson really pushed it as far as it could go. The results were fabulous.

As for this Bee vs. Diana debate, it's just about moot: Until the former can come up with something better than the watered-down, radio-friendly R&B she's been singing since the start of Destiny's Child and prove herself to have real longevity, there's no way I can consider her someone of the same caliber as Ross.

This kinda going off-topic but, now that I think about it, I think Beyonce did try to put out a single that showed off her voice in "Work It Out." That's the type of song she sinks her teeth into. She has to really sing on it, but she can still dance and strut about. She put the song out as an intended first single and radio didn't bite.

So, Sony scraped it and eventually "Crazy In Love" became her first single (even though I read she had to fight to get that released too--Sony wanted "Naughty Girl" to be the first single). To me, "Crazy In Love" was like the "compromise" single. It brought the old-school brass that "Work It Out" had (but of course, they used sampled horns because for some reason, radio doesn't seem to embrace live horns...very odd) and it took off, but I don't think she shined as strongly as on "Work It Out" (though it could be argued that Crazy In Love is more unique with that go-go beat and all).

Anyway, I did read that "Listen" will be released as single; she shot a vid for it. I don't know if they'll send it to A/C format or what, but she will at least have a ballad released this time out.

I love the old girl, but she shoulda pulled that outfit off and left it at home. disbelief She can't make it work and neither can Beyonce. That outfit always made me cringe. It's like she was trying to make her ass start at her knees and end at her shoulder blade. Not a good look then, now or ever.

While I think Beyonce has a voice I understand what people mean when they say she can't sing. The same thing is said about Mary J. Blige. I'm curious...

who would some of you guys rather hear sing live:

Beyonce or Mary J. Blige???

Neither, Beyonce over sings and Mary's voice isn't as powerful live as it is in the studio.

Both are rather disappointing live.

And I love Mary.

By the way, I'm not one who says they can't sing quite the opposite.

the first time I knew the girl could sing is when she did the Star Spangled Banner a few years back. It didn't top Whitney's but she made it her own and did a great job.

My parents are old school and think Beyonce is very overrated but they agree with the national anthem. Whitney's rendition would have been even better if she did not lip sync the performance. Still most people say Whitney was better without any hesitation.

I'd much rather listen to Beyonce sing than hear her talk. She sounds so fake and calculated. Maybe she's a fembot?

Well, she's a virgo cool them bastids don't identify with the term "spontanious".

Anyway, Diana the Boss was MUCH more ferocious and ambitous(and still is) than Beyonce.

Beyonce might've stepped on her ex-members,,,but Diane done walked on all over most of Motown's artists(and others too).

Beyonce doesn't have the same fire that Miss Ross was notorious for having.

I still don't get the "Beyonce can sing" stuff, but to each his own. I guess if she did have better production value, it would compliment her voice much better. I was listening to Lyn Collins yesterday, and she and Beyonce have similiar vocals. But Collins had James Brown solid production backing her performance, and it worked. Beyonce need to hook up with a solid live band with a horn section and a tight rhythm section, and a producer than came get the best out of the singer and the musicians the way James Brown did....Prince maybe?

It's true. Miss Ross slept with the right people to get great songs. Beyonce slept with Jigga and got, well, "baby boy...baby boy....baby boy...baby boy" that she came up with one her own sorta kinda. lol

Beyoncé, easily.

Vocally, Mary J. is too hit & miss live. The new spin Beyoncé puts on her songs live usually end up better than the recorded version, more times than not.

I guess you're right as well.
It's the same way producers killed Tevin Campbell's career. An alright first output then a gem then.....the graveyard. Still had some good pipes when he went out too.
