The Dancefloor Report ::: Fall 2006 [+ POCKETROCK Launch] New raving, I'm raving!!!
The Dancefloor Report ::: FALL 2006 Word on the street is that RAVE is back in effect... with a vengeance! Yes, yes, you remember screamo, glowsticks, kandy kids, happy hardcore and all of that neon madness? Well, it's experiencing a rabid revival in the form of multiple UK underground acts that are killing the dancefloors @ the mo': Klaxons, Soulwax (both of which are making their way thru NYC this week), Riton, NYPC, etc. And I hate to say it, but, uh, Scissor Sisters and all that are like so 1 month ago, man! Keep up with the dance musik, folks! Yeah, we've got love for 'em, but if you know, you *KNOW* what's up with the New Rave thing, baby. You've been warned. /// Also, I'd like to thank everyone for being patient with me and waiting in the wings while I got my first music blog together. I am ecstatic to announce that POCKETROCK is now up! It's been in the making much of this summer, been promo'ing it like crazy and I've finally unleashed it a few days ago. Pocketrock started as a music show on WCBN 88.3 Ann Arbor back in Spring '03 -- which lasted a year; it saw a brief resurgence in late '04 as an online radiocast and now has come full circle as a daily music blog providing the latest and best in dance, dance, dance (electro[nic/]pop, indie, discopunk, future retro, etc.) New music up as you read this [as well as all the artists listed above], so mosey on down :: http://www.devonevermore.com/pocketrock // And without further ado, I present to you, The LIST. Here's a video I found on YouTube of the Presets performing a bit. It's from the Splendour In The Grass festival in Australia, I believe. Gives you a pretty good idea of the energy of their live shows. It's shaky, but ya can't stand still during a Presets show! Enjoy!

Where'd you get that playlist from I don't see it Thanks! The Dancefloor Report comes from my experiences listening to music, going to clubs, hearing dance music out and about, scouring DJ lists, visiting sites, etc. It'll be a fixture on my blog in a little clickable corner, and it'll be available every season. ... Love Me or Hate Me has got a dancy-vibe to it IMO, Lady Sovereign is better on wax than she is live. I saw her perform this summer @ Central Park SummerStage and the show wasn't all that. She was mostly all about cursing and blathering about the stage, holding a mic -- not really saying or doing anything substantial. She was wack and I will not see her live again. But, yeah, "Love Me or Hate Me" is club cut for ya. Another track I like is "Gatheration." You're better off with her in a DJ set than seeing her on the mic.

I love your lists Mara! I always use them as my downloading guides. It seems that this time I actually already have 60% of the list already.
Thank you for your effort.

RADIO SOULWAX TOUR :: LIVE IN NEW YORK CITY (SEPT. 21, 2006) :: Sept 21 :: Live @ Studio B, Greenpoint, Brooklyn, NY "Rave" was the operative word the night Soulwax and the Klaxons descended upon New York for the Radio Soulwax Tour. The show was held inside of the cavernous Studio B club space in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Thursday denizens were greeted to a huge wooden dancefloor and the bouncy sounds of resident FIXED DJs JDH and Dave P, who manned the decks in between acts throughout the night. The place was packed. It was a colorful convergence of indie kids, punks, ravers and scenesters from all over. The pretentiousness was high! You could cut the indie snobbery with a knife. I even spotted a Cut Copy T-shirt in the crowd... READ MORE OF THIS REVIEW @ POCKETROCK [Edited 10/9/06 6:29am]
