What would White, Asian, Mexican. Jewish......

What would White, Asian, Mexican. Jewish and other nationalities do if say their top 50 musical artist and movie stars used DEROGATORY language toward their OWN race in EVERY project that they created 4 the next 10 years? How would u all react toward that artist? Would you EMBRACE them?

Thanks 4 your response.

They probably would not like it all. People that make hip hop ain't too bright anyway. They will do whatever it takes to make chump change even if it means degrading themselves. They are just staying in the place that white racists want them and are too damn stupid to see it.

I'm white, and I have no problem pointing out that white people have done some evil things. But I wouldn't want to see white people put down or degraded just for being white.

that is so dreadful!

any way to answer graycap's question, maybe other races are too smart to give into something like that. black people think they are "taking it back" or giving power to using derogatory slang against their own. they don't relaise they are actually setting us all back.

I'm not going to say that ppl that make hip hop are ignorant. I think Common, Black thought, Mos Def, Talib, etc are bright brothas.

I also don't see that 50 of the top black artists are doing this either.

So what are we really Trying to say about black ppl with this thread? eek

or are we talking about a genre of music in which I've heard white and latino rappers speak about themselves using derogatory language as well?

In my opinion there is a more sinister reason why this type of culture has evolved. First, note that although Black Americans have been under the gun of oppression for the majority of their presence in the U.S. and only somewhat equal to their white counterparts with the enactment of the civil rights amendment less than a generation ago, we're still here. Which indicates the resolve of the Black American community to survive.

Next note that one method to ensure destruction of a people is to destroy the family unit as previously done to Native American Indians.

Third, note the control of the money is in the hands of the record companies. Look to our record company owners and executives...(you just may find a nazi there) for the reasons why they'll pay an artist millions of dollars to disrespect his girlfriend, wife, mother, sister, daughter. Ask them why the only black females in hip hop videos got half their ass and tits exposed.

Our youth are very impressionable at this young age regardless of race...wow, if dude can have bling bling, ching ching, and a harem of sexy, half naked females drooling over him without bothering to get an education, so can I...hence, the brainwashing of an entire culture. Combine that with the ready availability of drugs and guns in the community and you create a situation ripe for destruction.

The hip hop company executives and producers glamorize the thug life, this is not an accident or a natural progression of the music of the fathers of rap and hip hop. It is by design. The thug life, in most cases, leads to either prision or homelessness. Today's prisons are quickly filling up with young black men and changing hands from being state run to privately held. The second most cost efficient method to high profits, besides convincing one to hand over 1/10 of your already taxed wages, is with cheap labor. This method of course we all know was instituted to "bring forth to this continent a new nation"...Abe Lincoln, and is still being used today, but under a different mask. The 13th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which was enacted over 100 years ago set the stage for what we see on BET today..."There shall be no slavery nor involuntary servitude in the U.S. except for punishment of a crime...",..hmmm wasn't it the slave gang that built the railroads? We were resilient then to withstand the harsh reality of corporate america, and apparently some of us still are. That is why, I believe this issue is not an issue in those other races.

I just pray that one day some artist or anybody who is not afraid to make a stand will stand up and open the eyes of our young Black Americans before the entire community is dismantled.

white folks (wi**as) and puerto ricans and (pri**as?) often refer to their homeboys as ni**as, so i think the whole "it's a black person" thing is almost DOA. of course ni**a and ni**er are not the same thing, but if you ain't black and you slip and use either one at a brotha or sista, you're still liable to get an asswhu**in.

It's MY contention that this is a very SERIOUS issue and it's NOT helping the Black community in any way, shape or form. We are falling behind in EVERY category that counts. If we do NOT wake up and put this type of mess where it belongs, we will REGRET it. We all ready are regretting it. I know 19 to 30 year old still living at home with their parents.....and have NO plans 2 move any time soon.

well when you write something smarmy like that, you should have some answers. don't suggest that using music has some kind of power over people's socio-economic situations.

It's different for whites. Race isn't such a serious issue for whites (in our minds) because nobody ever made it one for us. We haven't been oppressed because of our race.

That's not to say white people aren't concerned about racism or inequality. But we don't think about "helping the white community" or about our image, unless we're skinheads or KKK members.

I'm generalizing of course.

But I don't think about George Bush hurting white's image I think about him hurting Iraqis.

well first off--you need to own up to WHO you are talking about in this thread.

I also don't see that 50 of the top black artists are doing this either.

So what are we really Trying to say about black ppl with this thread?

or are we talking about a genre of music in which I've heard white and latino rappers speak about themselves using derogatory language as well?

The question is OPEN ended. I don't think ANY race but mine (unfortunately) would allow this type of mess 2 continue 4 as long as it has. If we could stay FOCUSED on the question of the THREAD (4 once) it would be REALLY nice.

I'm NOT going 2 get into any NEGATIVE stuff here or cyber arguments. I'll leave that 2 others.

I think in many other cultures, that R neither African American nor Anglo do this, but since it's not as prolific in the media, it's not as destructive. With Italian Americans, "Guinea", "WOP", and "Dago" R all "OK", from one 2 another. The media capitalizes on the IGNORANT and CRIMINAL stereotypes in the form of the Mafia, and this gets glamourized. This example is so prevelant, that there can't be a television show (or film 4 that matter) portraying Italian-Americans as anything BUT either ignorant or criminal.

Meanwhile, America is laughing at all of this as the pockets R stuffed, and the actors, directors, rappers, etc, R merely tipped with a small cut so they stay paid and willing 2 perpetuate.

I grew up in NY, where my friends were of many races. My Black friends throughout my NY and DC years have always accepted me warmly, and called me Niggah constantly. Also, since I have produced Hip-Hop and R&B 4 years now, that was the case even moreso.

Yeah it bothered me a little, about the same as one of my Italian friends sayin' "What's up, WOP". But these were my friends, my boys, my crew.

As far as the music I produced, I was strict about lyrical content... I would produce stuff with curses, but not that word, or any form of it. I would accept some violence, but it had 2 have a point, such as live by sword, die by the sword type of stuff.

Peace Gray.

U know I'm listening.

G.
