Question for the Tori Brigade: Do you know if rape victims identify with her at all? Does she fully represent that tragedy in her work or is it more symbolic? I don't know how she's viewed by those women.

Tori is kind of a major hero in those circles, as she was one of the first women in popular music to really address the issue in song ("Me & a Gun" is based on a near-rape experience she had). She was also a major force behind RAINN, and has done tons to raise money for that organization.

Oh wait, I do have Beekeeper too. I couldn't get into that album at all and I'm seein people sayin it was their favorite lol Maybe after I get more acquainted with the body of her work it might be different.

a lot of long time fans were not thrilled with beekeeper. in fact, next to strange little girls, i think its her least liked amongst the diehards. personally, i love the way she deals with tragedy, blessings, and life in general on that cd. its very adult and not angsty, whiney, pretentious or anything else tori is often accused of.

nod It took me quite a while to really get into that album, but now I love it. It was definitely a departure for her, but it grows on you with repeated listens.

Well I'm kind of a Tori virgin in training lol I posted a thread asking for suggestions and gangta suggested choirgirl.

Check my reaction and review here:

I've been on the live disc and thought I should start there first before doing the studio stuff. I can't really say what my favorites are right now because I need to digest the lyrics and let it unfold on me. I'll be posting thoughts later tho nod

Yeah, it takes time for it all to sink in. But certain songs start to hit me one by one. That's how it started with Tori and me. Her songs just began to sink in, and then when they were in, I was like eek eek eek eek I haven't gotten to the live disc yet.

The remixes, especially on the first disc, are VERY danceable--almost house music. I didn't think you were into that being a real musician and all. giggle

I think for many longtime fans, "The Beekeeper" was a major disappointment. This is kinda strange to me considering how much they embraced "Scarlet's Walk". The 2 albums aren't that dissimilar in sound and definitely are part of an era. "Beekeeper" might be a little funkier and all over the place, but the songs also stand out more. I think the major misconception is that it's a mellow, happy record.

The artwork is gorgeous. That picture on the front of your b-sides is SO nice.

I like the order of the tracklists and the division of years. I do it the same way.

Did you send them the "Scarlet's Hidden Treasures" stuff too?

That was a fantastic thread, and I'm so glad you took my suggestion. hug

I probably would've started on the studio stuff first, but since you don't have the albums that all this single material comes from, I don't know if that matters. There's no right or wrong way to get into her, I've learned that much for sure.

And I know I've pimped these sites out a million times, but if you want to dig deep with her lyrics, check 'em out...

www.toriphoria.com

If you go to the album page of this one, it breaks it down with song titles and lyrics/quotes to go with each. It's HUGELY helpful even for a million year Tori fan like myself. Her songs are so loaded with metaphors and hidden meanings, that reading what she has be say about the songs is almost as good as listening. Love it.

www.hereinmyhead.com

This site has some similar information, but is also very useful. If you browse the lyrics section, it will give you recording information and quotes about each song.

Happy hunting! mr.green

I'm glad you like 'em. hug

I purposely wanted only concert photos for the live discs. And for the remix ones, I looked for pics of Tori NOT playing the piano since her playing was pretty much removed from most if not all the tracks.

In retrospect I probably should have sent 'Scarlet's Hidden Treasures' also, but I see that EP almost as another album instead of more b-sides. I love pretty much every song on that disc (much more that 'Scarlet's Walk' itself) and enjoy listening to it separately. At least this gives Supa and heartbeatocean an incentive to buy the 'Welcome To Sunny Florida' DVD now (which includes the EP). razz

I'm too broke to buy the box sadly. mad I was reading pieces of her book last night...god that woman is a class motherfuckin act.

I also broke out "Choirgirl" for the first time in over a year..."Cruel" "iieee" and "Liquid Diamonds" are the shit.

And for people who didn't love the Beekeeper...what is up with you all? Her best record of the 00s, easily.

The DVD is nice. I love all the scenes in between too.

If you take everything from the EP, Scarlet's Web, the new songs from Tales, etc., you have a very nice album indeed.

And from what/when are the photos of your remix set?
