How Come Justin's SexyBack gets more respect from the mainstream than Prince's Black Sweat?

I still say that Black Sweat should have been a bigger hit if Universial would have gave it a bigger promotional push.

With that said, I'm happy for Justin to have a hit with Sexyback.

But what the hell is wrong with this picture. Does THIS american music industry really hate artists over age 35 now?

The public sucks. "Black Sweat" is the hottest record of the year (I can't think of any single that comes close to it) and had an excellent video. But what are you gonna do.

Why? Because Justin is 25, and Prince is pushing 50.

It sucks, but older acts get no love on the radio.

Very true and very pathetic. Black Sweat deserved to be heard cause that was and still is a hot song and it was passed for silly reasons. This song single handedly made me stop listening to Top 40 radio. It's pure and utter bullshit that Prince can't get no airplay but a counterfeit gets all the praise for sounding like a true artist. That's music today I guess. disbelief
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

one more thing. i'm sure glad tina turner came back when she did because if she tried to come back today, she's be ignored like mad. clear channel is ageist. they think the young people are really stupid and can't get into someone who happens to be 30 let alone 60. someone needs to call their sorry asses on that. i'm off my soapbox now but i got to say this.

FUCK CLEAR CHANNEL

I was thinking the same thing. The tracks are very much the same. Black Sweat slighly better, both songs suffer from minimalism. Black Sweat has a great breakdown, shoulda been a bigger hit, even for a 50 yeard old.

Black Sweat was hot to Prince fans. It wasn't that hot overall. For the record, SexyBack is overhyped, too.

Today's listeners do not like anyone to have an individual look and a gay look is the last thing they like. Prince has both of those. The 1980s were the opposite. You had to be an individual and if you weren't gay, you sure as hell had better look like you were. Those were the good ole days....when men were women and women were whores. lol

Even though I'm really not a JT fan, I'd say that SexyBack is a better song than Black Sweat; that breakdown in Black Sweat is just cringe-inducing. Plus, that Dre-styled synth line is so annoying, not to mention dated.

The breakdown (bridge, whatever you want to call it) is pretty much the same thing he did in 'Musicology'; the half-rap thing over the beat doesn't really do it for me.

I agree with that. My 17 yo sister won't even listen to Prince because he's 48. She's crazy about Timberlake, Paris Hilton, Pussycat dolls.. Now it's about fashion, forget about the music taste...

Its all about your age plain and simple. It doesnt really matter what Prince will put and how good it is, its not going to get time from Radio because he doesnt fit the demographic that radio is aimed at. Its just the way it is now, some people say its always been that way, but thats not true, things all started changing in the soundscan era.
