Van Hunt cancelled tour Saturday, November 11, 2006
g'byes (don't mean a thing to u & i) evenin'...i'm writing to let every one know that there will be no more van hunt shows this year. the tour, scheduled for september, october and november, has been cancelled. we simply cannot afford to be on the road. we will, however, continue to market 'On The Jungle Floor' on-line. but, for now, the record label, that owns the license to sell my records, is ill-equipped and/or unwilling to do so. at least, not through the influential and traditional channels-like radio, print, etc (which is what helps to pay the bills and expand the audience...crucial for an outfit as large as ours-trying to stay on the road). word of mouth from the enthusiasm meeting our shows has been wonderful; yet, it moves too slowly to save a budget already crippled by expensive recording costs...next time, cheaper record=longer tour and, hopefully, more success. i am disappointed for my band and for those of you who were looking forward to hearing us play. i'm off to focus on composing the third album. i really do appreciate the encouraging, insightful and supportive words. the next full length release, (and it's lead-off RADIO single or the new millenium equivalent) will be here sometime around april (not that long...if i'm feigning positivity). i've got a few surprises for you before then. this man needs to get on a different label. they suck at promoting him

Goddammit.
What can I say? I love Van Hunt, man. I am sooo pissed.

That sounds so fuckin' backwards to me... not backing a tour because the record was expensive to record.

I am a bit skeptical on that because the post is dated for November 11th but his road manager's page is saying that it's cancelled too...

Man, this is some bull!!! labels need to start backing the right acts. acts w/ true talent. you know what pisses me off is, someone like cassie is gona likely be doing an arena tour... [Edited 9/9/06 16:37pm]

This sounds very much to me what happend to the Jayhawks, they used to spend alot of their budget on recording and then had nothing left to tour with. But once again it just shows what i have been preaching, that labels dont care about Music, plain and simple, Mtv,Vh1,BET none of them care. We also should stop blaming the people like Ne-yo,Cassie, Danity Kane, and blame the real problem, the morons who work at labels, who have business degrees but know nothing about music, just how to make $. My guess is that EMI/Virgin, who have Van Hunt are spending all their time and money (around 50 million) promoting the new Janet record which is not going to even bring in half of what it cost, now thats not a knock on Janet, its just a knock on these morons at the labels that invest in all this media/PR/advertising and lose money over and over, this is why labels are shrinking and merging. the only hope is that labels will just crash and burn and it will be turned over to Myspace and YouTube, for videos and promotion. I'm just a fan. That is why I said that he needs to get on a different label. there was another blog on myspace where he asked fans to pick the next single. then he complained about the label because they didn't think the single we picked would go over well on the black market. fans picked Priest Or Police and At The End Of A Slow Dance

Using Yellowcard as a financial example might not be such a good idea. Ocean Avenue was a Platinum selling album for Capitol. Their current record, Lights and Sound cracked the Top 10 of The Billboard 200 album chart. Remember, we're talking dollars and cents here, not who may be a more viable act musically. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. There is still a fact that regardless of how many CDs you sell, if you're black, doing R&B music AND doing something different from the trend, there's almost a guarentee that you will have troubles. I still have a conspiracy theory about black bands and the music business but I'm not gonna go there on this board.

I still have a conspiracy theory about black bands and the music business but I'm not gonna go there on this board. check this out from one of his earlier blogs.. Friday, July 07, 2006 100 people can't be wrong so...i'm impressed! i think YA'LL should get together and start your own record label. i let the president of my label know that there are hundreds of people on this page who have something to say the he needs to hear. i love the fact that the two most popular choices for the next single were the two polar ends of the album: 'at the end of a slow dance' and 'priest or police'. that really speaks well for breadth of the project. and, i think that once mr. president realizes that 'dust' was just as viable a song as 'seconds of pleasure' and that 'at the end of a slow dance' is just as credible an effort as 'character' we'll be fine. the fact is, there are some people in the industry who just cannot fathom that a black musician can appeal to the consumer with anything other than "black" music. my answer to that is "you might be right." but, who's definition of "black" music are we using?...your very limited one? or OURS?!?! thank you for your wonderful responses. van ps. if you are coming to see us perform with the 'heavies', PLEASE be advised that we go on at 8pm!!! and, yes. we will be in attendance at each and every show you see on this schedule. oh yeah let me edit, I meant to say one more thing Please go there on this board, fuck what people think. Isn't it a pity at this point in the game, something like this is still an issue. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."
