Car Wash - Soundtrack & Movie

This is Norman Whitefield's 'fuck you' to Motown after they let him go.

Like Claudine, the music of Norman flow nicely with the movie's storyline.

As far as the movie, its my FAVE from the 70's. It was semi-independent, its cost was VERY cheap(comparing to the avarage movie) and the acting ensemble line-up were an unkown hungry group(except Pryor, The Pointer Sisters and Ivan Dixon).

Its great I loove that movie, its a slightly kinder blaxploitation movie. Particularly pleasing are the huge ass afros in it and those pimped out caddies they lather up and the appaearance of king Richard

Is it me or does the released DVD doesn't include all the scenes?

I remember vaguely seeing the white girl being dumbed by that cutie @ the end of the movie by an old man.

Correct me if I'm mistaken, there're other scenes there deleted from the movie.

Yes,a bunch of scenes are missing from the DVD.When I saw this movie in theatres back in 1977,Danny Devito was in it,but he is nowhere to be found on the DVD version. There are other scenes that are missing too....the part where Marsha's date comes back to pick her up and she learns that he wants her to date his nerdy-looking friend neutral I don't understand why all these scenes were deleted!

Bill Duke is the director for 50's movie "Get Rich Or Die trying". He played his dad in the movie too.

Antonio is still active in the comedy scene. But I wonder what happend to Ivan Dixon(he made a helluva movie back in the 60's with Jazz singer Abbey Lincoln called Nothing but a man).

Ren Woods' album was released in 1982 and includes a Prince-written track called "I Don't Wanna Stop".For some reason,he later removed the song from latter pressings of her album confuse

Franklin Ajaye had a standup thing going for a bit.
And I believe he's still a comedy writer.
Most recently he had a role in the HBO Deadwood series.

Franklin Ajaye was\is a crazy cat. The last time i saw him was on a Robert Townsend HBO special "Partners In Crime ". He's a Kidnapper who demands Robert Townsend character pay a ransom in nickels & dimes so it can't be traced.

Its a great movie like Purple Rain that actually shows the positives of beiong an African American. These people arent rich of stars, but they are working hard, makin something of their lifes and being black and beautiful. Even tho I am just a part Polynesian from New Zealand I have always empathised with the plight of African American people and the shit they have had to put up with since they were taken from Africa. Seriously man you guys rule. Prince is ultimate example of a positive African American doing well.

on another site that I visit, someone explained why certain scenes are deleted. Some of this information suprised me,but I guess it makes sense...

The DVD version is the complete theatrical version that was shown in theatres in 1976/77.

The "extra scenes" with Danny Devito (playing "Joe") and Brooke Adams (playing his wife Terry) were never shown in the theatrical version. These are scenes that were added to the TV version. When the movie appeared on TV,they had to cut several scenes that featured bad words. To make up for this, and to make the film longer, they added several scenes that were previously left on the cutting room floor. Thus, those of us who saw it on TV back then were probably going "wtf?....we didn't see these scenes in the theatre!" lol

Not sure if this is entirely true, but it makes sense. To those of you "old schoolers" who saw it in theatres, were the Danny Devito scenes in the film that you saw? I honestly can't remember,as I was only 7 years old, lol.

A similiar situation occured when "Saturday Night Fever" was shown on network TV.They had to remove more than ten minutes of raunchy scenes, cussing, etc. They replaced these scenes with unseen footage that was left on the cutting room floor.
