Introduce some local bands...

I thought it'd be interesting if we introduce some local bands that no one in other countries will ever hear of otherwise! Americans will of course have to pick some unknown local groups, otherwise we all know them propably. Maybe something from Hawaii or Alaska! biggrin
So, let's hear it for some Finnish, French, South African, whatever bands! If possible please with links to audio/video.

I'll introduce a funky German band that I found while shopping around:

Sorgente

You don't search for groove, you one day just find it. Or rather: it finds you, graps you, turns you 'round and upside down and never let you go again.

That is exactly what happened to seven young musicians from Munich. Being a pure acoustic band at the beginning, they created and perfected a sound during the last three years that seems not only to unite influences from the last 40 years, but captivates especially with the omnipresent and already mentioned GROOVE, moreover an incredible love and creativity in realizing their very special visions of sound.

This sound can be localized somewhere between the Caribbean's timeless capitals Kingston and Havanna, the swiging London of the late 1960ies and George Clinton's 70ies "Chocolate City" of Detroit.

The Italian word "Sorgente" means source; and from such a source the band seems to draw inexhaustibly when brewing their very own magic potion to revive and excite themselves as well as their audience.

Lovingly and virtouosly arranged harmony soul-choirs groove along with Reggae-Latin beats and spray Carribean lust for life and warmth; hard hitting retro Funk meets urban HipHop and is refined with World Music elements just to, finally, melt into songs that float into the ears without any resistance and become firmly fixed in one's mind.

One of the biggest german newspapers writes: "The sound comes cuddling and flattering, just to explode in the next moment...", another one says " You not only may dance- you definitely have to!".

Now, with "First, Then...?!" these seven young music freaks present a timeless, up-to-date record with thirteen songs you will have a craving for; songs, that let us hope expectantly what else will come out of this source.

SORGENTE are:

FAFUU: lead vocals, 12 string Acoustic guitar
OJAM: lead vocals
PETI: lead vocals, sax
CAPTAIN SUNSHINE: piano, hammond, clavinet, synth fx, dub elements
DUNGEE: Bass
Mr. JACOBSEN: lead guitar / vocals
TOBSEN: drums

Here's a link to the English version of the site. Just click on 'Music' and you can listen to the whole album (don't know if it's all full versions or long samples but you'll get the idea):

...I'm not Dutch but I have to mention www.leftiessoulconnection.com , because they kicked my ass so much when I saw them in Germany... biggrin

okay, meet local Austrian Band Chunkfunk who are doing mainly cover versions (and a few own songs) on various festivals

I have to give big props to them for introducing my six year old son to Funk... we've been at some gig a few months ago, and oh yeah... he liked it smile afterwards I made a compilation CD for him with the original songs he heard out there (Earth Wind & Fire, James Brown, Rick James, Wild Cherry, Prince etc.) and he's pumping that one very loudly in his room ever since smile ohhh.. way to go woot!

some snippets

Getaway
Shining Star
She's got no Funk

These groups no longer make records but they put out some great funk in the early 1980s...

Sho-Nuff
Freedom
Wynd Chymes
The Rose Brothers
Sparkle
Joe and Lee

These are two great blues artists and they still record. There are also countless other blues artists here but I don't listen to them.

Denise LaSalle
Bobby Rush
Andy is a four letter word.

The Haut Chachis

Mostly instrumental, and their sound can go all over the place. They play a lot at coffee shops, parties, over small gigs like that. But they're good. I'd heard just this morning they've actually got an album, so I'm going to try to got ahold of a copy.

They were only the opening act, but still they were one of the the reasons why my bf and I decided to attend that concert mad . So yes, we are very pissed mad mad. My boyfriend was told by one of the people who were travelling with the band and giving out flyers that it is a pity, but that they will return to Vienna anyway soon neutral . But I can't see myself go there mad .
