Old-Bitchery arrives - I like an ERIC BENET song!!!

WTF is going on here?? lol

The ONE song I ever liked from his was "Love Don't Love Me" from The Brothers soundtrack (plus he was the finest mf on the planet in that video tonk)...

But now I find myself liking "I Wanna Be Loved" eek AND "When You Think of Me" from his first album eek eek

Both are decent songs but Eric seems so adult contemporary radio to me confused That is NOT how I see myself hmph! And I should be laughing my ass off when I hear "I Wanna Be Loved" considering the horror he put an already crazy Halle Berry through disbelief

But I dig it... those 3 songs... somebody help me, I'm growns up boxed

lol

He has several songs that I love from the first album. Everything after that I found boring including his duet with Tamia and Faith. Egads. That Love Don't Love Me seemed forced.

But I do like I Wanna Be Love and Pretty Baby from Hurricane is a undeniably a great song. I try not to thing about his personal drama but I'm not running behind him either.

I clicked on Pretty Baby & it sounded alright nod I almost bought it, then something just turned for me. shrug

And he needs his scruffy facial hair back, some of the pics of him lately are downright odd. He's all suited & wide eyed & clean shaven - WTF?? whofarted

I think it is. The music, his voice, the lyrics... It's one of my favorites by him. That first album has some gems and I still run them on the regular.

His 1st album was the BOMB.

Nothing he did after that album even came close.

HE is a highly underrated singer.

He deserved the same attention as Maxwell and D'Angelo, but had horrible promotion.

'When You Think Of Me' is actually from his second album 'Day In The Life'. His first album, 'True To Myself' is vital listening. In fact, of the neo-soul releases of that time, I'd rank it ahead of 'Baduism' and on-par with 'Brown Sugar'. Only 'UHS' was better, IMO.

Odds are, you know someone who has it. Give it a listen. 'Let's Stay Together' and 'While You Were Here' are without question two of the best ballads by anyone in the 90's. And when you consider the story behind the latter track, you might be moved to tears after hearing it. The album on a whole is fantastic, but other standout tracks, IMO, would be 'Femininity', 'I'll Be There', 'Just Friends', and 'All In The Game'.

Now having said that, he's done nothing since 'True To Myself' that compares.

I like 2 of his songs "True" and another song that I can't remember the title to, but in it he sings part of the nursery rhyme "Georgy Porgy Pudding Pie" I like the jazzy horn section on it.

It's not a bad cover, but the original is better.

neutral It's got some good songs, but I don't think it's as good as any of those others. I have it like this:

1. Brown Sugar
2. Urban Hang Suite
3. Baduizm
4. True to Myself

Well, I guess there's just no accounting for good taste. Just kidding...

I dig 'Baduizm', but it's just slightly overrated to me. Which, it was bound to be considering all the hubbub surrounding her after 'On And On' dropped. And under no circumstances would I consider 'Brown Sugar' better than 'Urban Hang Suite'. But all in all, it sounds like we can agree that all four releases contain some pretty good music.

Agreed, but I still think it's stronger than the Benet album.

As much as I love UHS, I consider Brown Sugar to be much better. Maxwell is clearly a better singer, but I prefer everything else about D'Angelo. But they're both great. music

The thing that impressed me most about 'True To Myself' is the versatility he showed. How much ground he covered. 'Baduizm' is very much a 'neo-soul' joint. It practically defines that sound. And if you're very attuned to that sound, you'd value an album like that moreso than 'TTM'. And don't get me wrong, 'TTM' has some of those elements ('While You Were Here' and 'Let's Stay Together' ballad-wise, are as strong as anything you'd find on any of the other three mentioned albums), but songs like 'Spiritual Thang' and 'Chains' branch out from that medium. Ultimately, that diversity wins out for me over something like 'Baduizm'.

There are lots of songs on Hurricane that I like, mostly the second half (if that makes sense). There's a lot of presumption that many of the songs are written as some kind of apology to Halle. I don't know about all that, but my favorite on that cd is The Last Time (which David Foster co-wrote), but I also like Cracks of My Broken Heart, I Wanna Be Loved (the 1st single) and Pretty Baby (which is actually on the 1st half). Like I said...Fan here! So what can I add? lol
