A homeboy from Bed-Stuy.
I've seen him as an opening act at quite a few Fillmore East shows. These 2 albums are the ones i'm most familiar with... ...Mixed Bag & Richard P. Havens, 1983 High Flyin' Bird (from Mixed Bag) was a free-form FM radio staple. Run Shaker Life (from Richard P. Havens) gives a really good perspective on what a powerful performer and amazing rhythm guitarist he is. There's a funny story about the Woodstock performance. The promoters had to ask him to keep on playing and playing because the act to follow, Santana, hadn't shown up yet. Richie Havens NPR interview here: http://www.npr.org/templa...Id=3845549 tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."

I absolutely love him ~ the last live concert I saw him at was on or around Halloween in 1970 in Detroit. Sublime! [Edited 9/10/06 18:33pm] Music is the language of the spirit. It opens the secret of life bringing peace, abolishing strife. --Kahlil Gibran
