I like what Pete Townshend (I think) said about Jimi on one of the many documentaries about him: "Jimi's was like an alchemist..." and then went on to say how he took this instrument and the sound and turned into something much more magical and brilliant than it originally was.

I had a friend at a job I was working at once, and when she came in my office when I was playing some Jimi on my CD player, she was like, "oh, he's too heavy metal for me!" How can someone hear heavy metal from him? I wouldn't even classify his music in any genre. I think he liked to call himself as a bluesman, but to me, he's in a genre all by himself.

Actully, the term "heavy metal" was first invoked to describe Hendrix's sound. Some critic said it was "like heavy metal falling from the sky."

That said, I LOVE the Machine Gun solo! I usualy don't get all weepy and crap over guitar solos, but this one is just so damn EXPRESIVE!

Harlepolis

I'm more of a Charlie Christian digger, as far as solos concern. As opposed to Jimi and the rest who came after him.

I've got room on my plate for some Rose Room and Solo Flight right along side my Machine Gun.

Nothing like a balanced diet. cool

Guitar One is an excellent magazine and the only one I still check out on a regular basis.

The included CD-ROMs are pretty cool.

Speaking of Band of Gypsys, anyone notice that Jimi seems to break a string on "Who Knows" and go way out of tune because of it?

I wonder why he couldn't just switch guitars (maybe during a scat solo)?

I don't have it with me here, but it's maybe halfway in. Since it's a jam, I can't just say "during the third verse."

I'll see if i've got it in the car but his guitar was notorious for going out of tune in general during live performances.

But you've got a Strat, you know what I'm talking about. It happens all of the sudden.

I know exactly what you're talking about. smile

I've been pretty satisfied with the way mine is set up. It's very stable.
Plus I don't do any really extreme things with the tremelo bar.
