Level 42 - something about you On SNL: http://www.youtube.com/wa...9LytaYtAlE
This show was the first time I saw Mark King play. I had thought all those sounds came from a synth before I saw this... Great song!

I just found out that Mark only started playing bass when he was 21! Anything's possible!

Level 42 is touring these days again . Maybe you might be able to catch a show . My fave Level years are when they started 'till about the mid 80's . They had one or 2 albums produced by Larry Dunn from Earth , Wind & Fire . Back in the day , i used to buy some clothes from this brand in my country . [Edited 9/10/06 9:44am]

He was a force behind the scene during the early years . I remember a funkclub in my city always played another instrumental jam on a maxisingle b-side , from the World Machine album which also includes Someting About You . I tried to surf it like crazy , but now i believe it might have been the World Machime track itself . Anyone here heard that b-side track ? . . . [Edited 9/11/06 8:04am]

Level 42 was/is one of my fav bands of the 80's.
I used 2 buy every 12"and album,it was fun pop/funk music wich got played in every club but it just was better than most of the other pop music that was around that time. And something about you is one of their best. Love4oneanother

Anthony David has a pretty decent version of "Something About You" on his upcoming album. It doesn't stray very far from the original.

Exactly, He didn't start out as a bass player! He grew up playing drums, and one of his big heroes was Lenny White, who was the drummer in Return to Forever at the time. There was an opening for somone who played bass in a London music store, so Mark lied and told them that he played bass! He would spend the days kind of learning on the job, but also applying his drumming technique on the bass guitar, which is one reason his style is so percussive... ...
