janet 20 y.o. official 6 track sampler...(UPDATED AGAIN: 8th song)

its left me not so excited.

call on me, so excited, enjoy, show me, with you, and take care are the songs included on the sampler. if those 6 songs represent the best of the cd, i'm passing on a janet jackson release for the very first time ever. out of the six, one is really great (enjoy) but the rest are mediocre at best. for the first time ever, i'll have to go to virgin and preview the cd first. i may end up just buying the few good tracks from itunes.

all on me, show me, take care, so excited, and with you are ok. nothing special...if it wasn't janet i wouldn't listen more than once or twice. enjoy is it, though. i love that track so much!

the sampler is available for a listen on janetmedia.com (don't worry mods, it's a legit promo tool). go listen and make up your own mind.

Were any of the new ones dance tracks?

memories mar my mind
love it is a fate resigned

and laughed at by the Gods
and now the final frame

Well I figured it out. Janet I think really wants to make a dance album, which is what the fans want. Virgin, on the other hand, has been trying to push her as a tradional R&B artists since she came out. I'm hoping that this sampler is only R&B tracks (Virgin's idea) and there are some real great dance tracks on there yet. I know I'll buy this and will probably just keep it even if it sucks just because it's Janet. Again, I hate to repeat myself, Janet will make another great album, but this is definately not it!

oh, i'm sorry, let me introduce myself. my name is jason and i'm a HUGE janet damita jo jackson fan! lol

i'm surprised because i've never lacked excitement over a new janet jackson cd. never, not once. now i'm not only lacking any excitement, i am totally disengaged from the whole thing. its disappointing to say the least.

so excited is a dance track. show me is also an upbeat track but i wouldn't call it a dance track. maybe with a remix it would be hot. shrug enjoy is midtempo but not in the same vein as call on me. somehow it reminds me of runaway but it does not sound like runaway. with you is a slow, mellow jam...it reminds me of her past but not as well-crafted as her past work.

just go to janetmedia and check it out. maybe you'll feel totally different about it.

Why is Jermaine yelling all over the mix? As someone mentioned, he really is her hype man, huh? Pushing those four album covers... I heard he really wants to make this album about him and has sorta pushed Jam & Lewis to the back. And like Beyonce and Jay I don't think he'll let this flop no matter how much of a disappointment it is.

Sounds like the DaBrat on Show Me which is cute but damn I wish her vocals were stronger, give the song some energy. Janet must like to slow dance and two-step because nothing Ive heard so far makes me want to run to the dance floor and truly get down.

you're not even joking. even the upbeat tracks aren't out and out dance tracks...just some urban flava o'the week melodies with janet singing about her coochie and how bad she wants it/needs it. the synth in show me is hot but the sample played leaves me kind..."eh."

and jermaine is totally selling this record like a box of sugary cereal with a chance of four different prizes in each box. i thought prince's scam of a "purple ticket" was cheesy and desperate. this is no different, but at least prince gave you a concert. shrug

Yeah. I hear ya. And I'm trying to hang in there. For some reason Janet and her team are starting to annoy me. Maybe I'm just in a bad mood? confused

I wasn't too thrilled about the excerpts of an interview I read here either. I'm no prude by a long-shot, but Janet please... I'm just sick of hearing about her sex-life or even if I don't literally hear/read about it--well it's always in her music or in photos. I never thought I'd say that, but for some reason, her whole persona is starting to grate. Then her little minions jumping to her defense all of the time. Oh please. Give it a rest.

Really. I bet Janet is really dissapointed in this CD, then. She said she wanted dance and it sounded like JD got his way. THe album might sell, but that doesn't mean it's any good.

if janet has that little control over her career this late in the game, she has bigger problems than this record.

I bet you're right. I remember all the news leading up to the album suggested it would be very dance oriented. But after hearing the tracks that have leaked you see something got changed along the way. It's kind of ironic of how little control she's had on this album.

You just know her label is pushing towards getting her on the radio and hoping for another Mariah-esque success. She is getting radio airplay once again but it seems to have put off a lot of people by the lack of interest in the tracks. Really her situation is different from Mariah. Janet has actually got to do something interesting to get people's attention.

Like put on clothes? Seriously, being naked on every magazine cover just smacks of Nipplegate all over again. Frankly, it's boring. I just saw her "Doesn't Really Matter" video a few days ago. She was covered up, dancing, having a good time, and that song went to No. 1. It's the last time I truly enjoyed a Janet Jackson song/video.

The album seems to be a huge sell out. It's going for the public but is really pissing off the real fans. Should be interesting to see how it does. And sadly, I beat when Janet gets around to making the kind of record she wants to, it won't sell because fans were so pissed off by this one, but years later it will be praised.

THis must be in the UK. They don't sell proper CD singles anymore. Not a lot anyway, and mostly those are maxis. The fact that her last CD didn't have any maxi release singles speaks volumes (and I doubt this one will either). Also, Janet and Nelly....yeah, that looks good for her debut single! THe marketing for DJ is starting to look good at this point....

yeah, i'm probably just gonna buy the good tracks off itunes and be over it all. i like call on me but only as background music while i'm doing something else. enjoy is the shit, for real, but i can buy it for .99 if its the only worthwhile track.

from all the reviews i've heard/read; for the 1st time, i'm a little scared to hear a Janet Jackson album. boxed

side note: they're advertising her interview with Oprah Winfrey already. She looked like Nelly Furtado did on that fashion show. same hair-do. and almost the same clothes. eek

i can't speak for anyone else but i can tell you that i'm disappointed because i don't care to see janet "do" beyonce or mariah. i want janet to "do" janet. i like janet because of her style and not because she can do what everyone else is doing.

what i've heard so far, excluding enjoy, is just janet trying to fit in with the trends.
