Who's the most inspiring female Gospel artist?

I've been listening to Yolanda Adams ever since I saw Prince mentioning her in his thank-you speech on the BET Awards. She really moves me especially now that I am experiencing a lot difficulty in my life cry . But I am open to any recommendations. cool
Is there any other female Gospel artist that surpasses Yolanda?

I can't answer your question, but I just want to say that even though I'm an atheist I love to hear Yolanda sing gospel. In fact, I love to hear her sing anything. She has the best voice out there today that I've heard.

Still is. They just recorded a live album in Houston for a release early next year.

Karen is definitely hands down the most inspiring female Gospel artist IMO! and her latest album proves it! lol

Then, the Clark Sisters are still together. This is great! I'll check their new album next year.
Is Karen more popular than her daughter Kierra? I was in Best Buy yesterday, and only Karen's newest album was available. Whereas there were two copies of two of Kierra's albums, making that a total of four albums. By the way, I am rejoicing listening to Karen's "It's Not Over" album. woot! cloud9

As far as notoriety is concerned, more people know of Karen because she's a living legened and pioneer of contemporary gospel music. Most of her fans are fans of The Clark Sisters; whereas, her daughter, Kierra, sells more because of her youthful sound. She doesn't really carry the "Clark sound" like her mother and aunts but does possess a lot of their elements.

Where Karen will use a producer like Donald Lawrence or Israel Houghton for her album (who are known for their choir/vocal arrangements and musicianship), Kierra will use someone like Warryn Campbell or Fred "Uncle Freddie" Jerkins III to give her that more contemporary, contemporary sound.

Her latest album, This Is Me, sounds like a gospel album by Brandy! lol

Really nice, though! thumbs up!

Yes, you got this right. Karen is the biggest seller out of all her sisters solo wise, her latest album has already outsold Dorinda's which was released a year ago. Both of Kierra's albums have gone Gold in Japan & the two will be leaving this weekend over there. Kierra will be there for her promotional tour, her mother will be there to support plus Karen has some singing & preaching engagements of her own over there too.

I love all of The Clark Sisters solo & especially collectively, Karen & Dorinda being my favorites. Don't just pick up "Its Not Over", get ALL of Kurn's cds. biggrin Get Dorinda's too, "Rose of Gospel" & "Dorinda Clark Cole Live"....she's an energetic holyghost fireball & the "preacher" of the group. Most importantly, check for the Clark Sisters Live reunion album that should be out later this year or early next year....it was recorded last month in Houston, Texas in front of a sold-out crowd of 10,000 people. It will be a double disc featuring new material on Disc 1 & all the old Clark classics revisited on Disc 2. Anyone interested in photos & all the recaps, PM me. wink

Okaypimpn, when say that Kierra possesses a lot of the Clark's sound elements, do you mean the moods their albums evoke?.

ThreadBare, thanks so much for the link to Benita's website. I was particularly moved by Hold On. touched Benita is like God's instrument delivering powerful words of encouragement. This reminds me of Prince's song I Would Die For You. Both songs are written from the perspective of God. I wish Prince wouldn't doubt himself. Maybe God has chosen him to deliver some healing through such Gospel infused songs like I Would Die For You and The Cross.

I am not a big gospel fan, but Candi Staton and Vanessa Bell Armstrong have done some incredible stuff. Candi Staton - you truly can't go wrong there, although it's "modern" gospel 80s up to the present mostly. She does the illest version of "Precious Lord" I've ever heard.

I like her voice, she gets into it when she sings. I liked her album she released in 98.
