New Music that you're feeling!

I get alot of great music ideas from the org, but alot of the time
we all get caught up on how crappy some of todays music is

So please tell me orgers...

What newer music have you all been enjoying and listening to lately? biggrin

Well, I haven't listened to 'new music' in a looooong time. Last 'new' album I bought was 3121.
It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

Thats the whole point
Alot of us don't really even give new music a chance (myself included)
so I figure it would be interesting to see what some Org peeps
deemed listen-worthy smile

There is a reason we don't give it a chance. It's because it sucks. smile

The new Handsome Family is their best album yet, I think, though it's pretty much the same record they've been releasing for a decade; Nick Cave-ish gothic country music.

The new Scott Walker vaguely disappointed me at first because it seemed a little too similar to Tilt, his last album, but subsequent listens have shown that it's a harder, more extreme record, and that's really saying something. This has to count as one of the most demented records ever to be marketed as pop music.

The new Mountain Goats has only been out for a week, and I'm not quite used to its low-key, quiet sound, but their mopey loser-folk-pop is definitely my favourite musical discovery of the past year.

and I've only had it for a few days, but I'm really loving Donald Fagen's new(ish) album.

I bought "Ultimate" and haven't played it yet. I'm on my way out, and am going to play the remix disc in the car. I play so much Prince, I was trying to rest.... music

- I've been killin' IDLEWILD this past week...
- I bought Los Lonely Boys' "Sacred", and only played it once. I have the other two, so I thought, "why not?", but I'm not feeling it.
- I'm thinking of buying Justin Timberlake's new one.

Your lies, they cut me.

J Dilla -- The Shining: Other than the annoying intro featuring Busta Rhymes (who does less with more than any MC in the history of the game), it's on point. It could be the best hip-hop album of the year,

Corrine Bailey Rae: It pretty much lives up to its hype.

And I've said enough about this one. . .

I didn't (really) dig Waltz of A Ghetto Fly, is this one in the same vein?

No, I think this one is a big improvement, IMO...I didn't dig Waltz either....I loved his very first album, Mr Fiddler--With Respect, that had more of a P-funk/Soul feel...and this new one is somewhere between the two, if that makes any sense....much more Eclectic and Ambitious than Waltz...

...actually, this one is more varied than With Respect, now that I think about it...on Afro Strut he digs into a bunch of bags: 70's Funk and Soul, Jazz, Hip Hop, Electronic, Dance...

One tune, If I Don't, with its post-swing clarinet and Boogie Woogie piano, conjures up the 1930's, while another tune, Funky Monday, sounds like Sly Stone and [b]Stevie Wonder workin' out...Empower Me sounds like something that Lonnie Liston Smith or Roy Ayers might have done...
