JuliansRide

Okay, okay -- it's crow eating time. Awhile back, I ridiculed Julians Ride for being a cheap Prince rip-off. A couple of people on here differed with me and I agreed to buy his cd and report back to the board. Well, I tried leaving a message on the original thread, but I think it's locked or something. So here goes. I liked the cd. Julians's ride total freedom cd was fun to listen to. I still think he's a bit of a Prince clone. But his music is jamming. Particularly enjoyable was the RIDE. Why he didn't open his cd with this song is beyond me. It's a great anthem like tune for him! Perhaps more than anything else on the album, it has a Prince vibe. Eargasm was cool too. So I'd recommend the cd. Julian ain't Prince, but he ain't bad either...

The pleasure was all mine. I love discovering good music and Julian's stuff is better than half the stuff you'll hear on the radio. I even like his slow jams. "Tell me what you want, tell me what you need..." I wish him all the success in the world. Is he planning another cd anytime soon?

here's the thing about julian as far as i'm concerned - he's out there doing his thing and not just talking about it, and he's been doing it for a while. i know that sounds apologist to the point of delusion, but i really mean it...i admire the guy for taking the prince lookalike kinda vibe and building his own thing from it. plus, he's always been exceedingly friendly every time i've run into him at parties and shows. he's good people as far as i'm concerned.

The problem is that he'll never get anywhere having that kind of image. He'll only ever be seen as a Prince impersonator. Harsh, but true.

maybe he doesn't want to do much more than have fun performing and doing music, and his way of doing it is gratifying enough for him.

I kinda wonder if he realizes how much his "influence" shows or if he thinks of what he is doing as totally original? I haven't heard the bootleg songs that were mentioned as ripoffs but I hear a whole lotta Prince licks in his songs.

He has to know. His style is blatant. But his music sounds good. I miss the old Prince so much, I'll listen to accept a decent substitute.

anybody remember when he was with the Parliament/Funkadelic tribute band The Groove Pushers? I snuck into a show up north to see them, under age at the time, and listen to them rip through Alice In My Fantasys. so yeah I respect him.

He's heavily influenced by Prince - so what? I enjoy stopping by his Myspace page every now and then. His tunes are on point. Fun listen.

That was my original point. I enjoy his music -- regardless of who influenced him. That's like spitting on Plato and Aristotle because they were heavily influenced by Socrates.

I was using hyperbole, damn it! biggrin Julian is fun to listen to. I can't say that about most of the popular artists out there.
