Busta Rhymes feat. Rick James - In The Ghetto

This song samples Rick James vocals (only) from the chorus of "Ghetto Life". The new beat underneath is at half the tempo of the original track. Who has heard it?

I know! Me either confused I'm sorry but I like "Ghetto Life" so much that they would really have to do something either really close to it, or do something different than they tried. Especially having Rick James canned vocal going on top of a slow beat.

falloff That figures. "Ghetto Life" wasn't an extremely fast tempo song to begin with and these damn rappers still have to slow it down so they can talk over it.

I remember in the mid 1990s when everyone was sampling "Between The Sheets" which a lot of us in the 1980s considered a ballad. They slowed down even more and rapped over it. Then DJs were playing the songs on the dance floor.

Nah, man. That shit is wack. That soft ass beat? Man, they butchered a great Rick James song. Busta is on the shit list with me for this one. It could have been so much better.

"Ghetto Life" is a wonderful song, and a Rick James classic. Busta Rhymes isn't for to carry Rick's crusty crackpipe, let alone reinterpret one of his songs.

I'll admit as an old man (34) that I find most of hip-hop's popular shit on the wack side...But if some of you guys can't tell the difference between some bullshit and a dope little cut like In The Ghetto (glad Rick is getting his props, beyond a catch phrase...) then some of y'all are ready to wear Depends...Try not shitting on everything that's hip-hop.....It's not that serious...I dig the track...

Just Blaze did a beat with Rick James' "Super Freak" this year that was excellent. nod

I did a thread on that one too.

Just Blaze didn't do a Hammertime job on it, either. wink

Correct....don't know how ironic or funny that is...I was a teen in the '80s...Dug Thriller era MJ, Prince and hip-hop...Most folks in their 30s and early 40s came up during hip-hop's '80s commercial heyday...

Again...you won't get me to start taking up for what passes as hip-hop nowadays...But what you are getting at is very extreme...It's the same thing that jazz lovers said about the funk as not being "real" music....I think it's a generational thing....I would love to see more kids pick up an instrument...But the lack of musicianship and "funk" has more to do with changing technology and music trends...There are some folks that paint hip-hop with one brush and hey, that's just the reality of the situation Vainandy...I can type out a list of hip-hop artist that transcend their genre...But there's no use because you've already made up your mind that folks like Nas, RUN DMC, Public Enemy, A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, early Jay-Z, The Roots, Dr. Dre, early Fugees, ect, ect, are crap...I dig that...Just remember what the jazz heads said about the "funk..."
