It's extraordinarily good, no question about it. My first impression is that this is a better album than Love and Theft, and I loved that album to pieces. I'm not going to start making any guesses as to where it fits among his other recordings, though. I just can't say things like Desire < Love and Theft < Bringing It All Back Home, because I love his early records so much that I have absolutely no perspective when it comes to assessing how his last few records compare.

Fantastic cd. Not as great as Blood on the Tracks (IMO), but very good. The lyrics surpass anything I've heard in years. Bob writes about meaningful, profound situations in his life. There isn't another song writer like him. It makes me howl with laughter when I hear some of the ridiculous lyrics by some hip hop or pop artists. Some just don't have a clue how to write a meaningful, heartfelt song.
Sexyback?? WTF!! | |

it's astonishingly good... i've been listening to it non-stop.
Where it fits in his career overall? I don't know... that will take a little time I think. But Dylan's output in the last decade - 3 brilliant and essential recordings - may ultimately be seen as the high point in his career, in my opinion. He just KNOWS... ya know? He's seen it all, done it all, doesn't really give a fuck, he's just doing his thing. The fact that he's still around making music like this is a gift to all of us, and I for one am thankful.

I'd say it's in the lower reaches of the Best Ten Dylan Albums. Yup, it's THAT good. There are three sides to every story. My side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. Memories shared serve each one differently
