This is funny , due to an anecdote from a buddy of mine .
Around early 90's , he read in the UK magazine Blues & Soul about a Midnight Star concert-announcement in London .





As hyped as he became because MS had almost never performed in Europe before ( unless they did 1 or a few gigs on US Army basises in Germany ) .
So he and another buddy immediately ordered tickets , keeping in mind that this might be one of the rare occasions to see them live .
The specific concert-day was nearly there , and they were off to cross the ocean .
Finally arrived in the daytime to eagerly get their tickets , they were told .... it was cancelled ... and they already had made the trip from Amsterdam to London .


You can imagine the atmosphere ... they were like : "WTF are we doing here and gonna spend this fuckedup & completely paid weekend anyway , when our main purpose has gone in thin air ?!"
Out of frustration they've spent all their bucks buying buckets of cd's and beers .


Jumping one year later , a new concert-announcement from MS , now in a German city .
My buddy told me he had made zillions of calls to the organisation if this REALLY was going to happen ... not such a disastrous experience as in London again .
The organisation sweared to have booked them , so after finally being somewhat convinced , they ordered tickets and the trip to the East was a fact .
Traveling with their fingers crossed , they arrived by driving in the street from the venue and saw an immensive billboard with the flashy announcement of

So the adrenaline went up again , and once in the venue the band opened with "Snake In The Grass"
Now the funny thing is that this vid is such a stage-performance as he told about ,
so when i just found it on YouTube , i got an immediate flashback of his story .

2 B frank , it's not really my fave Midnight Star-sound , but was surprised that this clip excisted .
I think it might be one of the last years with the Calloway Brothers , or maybe they already had started their solo-career around that era .
The latest 80's album i have from them is the one with Midas Touch ( 1986 ) , nothing after that and finally their last album from 2003 , which has some surprisingly great tracks . They still perform 2 this day .

"Snake In The Grass" was a jam from their 1988 album. It's one of those "Freak-A-Zoid" type jams. Another great jam from the same album is a Minneapolis sounding song called "Pamper Me". "Don't Rock The Boat" was also on that album but they could have kept that song because it's just decent.
