Read it years ago. Ian Carr was very vague about this area (and rightly so, as it's hardly the most important aspect of the man). I've read most of the Miles books there have been over the years. To my knowledge, none of them have specifically named any man Miles may have been involved with, or any specific incident of homo/ bisexuality. Though, if Miles was bisexual (and had a problem with it), it may at least partially explain his attitude towards women and some other aspects of his personality, such as his anger issues. One things' for sure, he was a complex and often troubled man.

Personally, I don't have to know a musician was a 'nice person' in private to enjoy their music, and if they weren't 'nice' a lot of the time, then it just shows their flawed humanity. Everybody's done bad stuff in some way or other if they live long enough. Some of the great bluesmen had done time for murder, but I think they did great music. It is possible, I think, to separate the music from the person, to some extent.

But who knows what went off with Miles? I'm off to listen to his music, which is what really matters in the end. Great music will always outlast any character flaws of the originator.

Well, in the book Pryor Convictions Richard Pryor mentioned being freaked out by seeing Dizzy and Miles tongue kissing in a dressing room. I didn't believe it when my sister read it to me. We both brushed it off as Richard being coked out of his mind and "seeing things." Maybe we were in denial. I read Miles's bio and he never mentioned a penchant for the male species, but who really knows.

Richard Pryor really was something else. He is quite candid in that book, which I guess you would expect from Richard. But yeah, the Dizzy and Miles thing freaked us out.

Read the book,it is very good.Deborah is a GREAT writer...I like the way she "describes" things,especially her childhood memories.From reading her book,I would say that she is probably more down-to-earth than her husband,although she shares most of his spiritual beliefs.Read this book!!

Miles had a lot of issues, mainly to do with his bisexuality.

I saw the book at Border's around May-June of this year, and funny that my sister ordered the book as well as a bio on Sylvester. The stories she tell are a open window of time, taking us into the 1960's, 70's and the lifestyle she wa introduce to. She can be found in the photo collage of the back of RIOT. I never knew about Carlos cheating on her or any of the trauma Sly put her through. Good book to own.
