while i liked the version of "Dead Nigga Boulevard" that appeared on the record too, i was actually spoiled by the FIRST arrangement of the song that i had heard live years before this record was even released. The first arrangement of "Dead Nigga Boulevard" was straight up MONSTEROUS...and gritty...and searing...to me it sounded like a completely different song than the versions that appear on the album...so, while the album versions stand strong on their own (i know plenty of folks who havent heard the original live arrangement who LOVE the album versions) for me the live versions spoiled me...

eek Okay, that's just scary - I've never heard another arrangement of "Dead Nigga Blvd" but the one on the album absolutely KILLS ME. I'm skurred to think of what a "MONSTEROUS" version would do to me eek

lol DAMN, wish I could hear it!

Cookie was widely slept on - I'm a MeShell fan & I even waited a good few months before I bought it disbelief I'd say it's her second best album ever, with Bitter being her absolute best. But that's saying a lot, both albums are absolutely kick ass heart
heart prince I never met you, but I LOVE you & I will forever!! Thank you for being YOU - my little Princey, the best to EVER do it prince heart

wink heheh...hopefully i haven't overstated the differences, but yeah to my ears the live version i heard was quite different from the studio version...

the best way for me to describe it was the live version i heard seemed slower, darker, grittier, angrier...more scorching...in fact now you have me thinking that i haven't heard it in a while, i'm gonna have to go see if i can find it again...

First line of the album blows you away immediately:

You sell your soul like you sell a piece off ass.....

and then that bass kicks in.....drooling

Yeah Cookie... is a GREAT album. It's my favorite by her and one of my favorite albums of the last ten years. It just gets better with every spin, so many nuances, great vocals, lyricism, musicianship, damn good album.

thumbs up!

dig that track bout running my fingers thru ur dreadlock!

prince had zero input on any of her albums. she's a huge admirer of his, but he has never worked with her on her studio albums.

by the way, over at http://www.freemyheart.com in the 'Polylogue'/ 'Concert' section, that 11_18_1999 Meshell show is now also available in mp3 format as a single download...

also while you are at that site...
you really may wanna go to the front 'home' page and click the "Enjoy:)" link...

its right under the "2006-09-03"

it says "WEFUNK: Enjoy:)"...click the enjoy and it will take you straight to thr definitive meshell myspace video/audio section where you can now see & hear clips from some of her most recent gigs featuring her latest band "A Different Girl Every Night".....

...i haven't even had a chance to see them all...i've only had time to click on one (from the Annex gig last week) and it sounded AMAZING so i thought i'd come over here and let ya'll know this stuff was available since folks have been wondering what direction she's going in...
