2 each own as always , but rap contains rhyme-rhyhtm called "flow" .
Hence the Last Poets , Gil Scott Heron and even Dr Funkensten ( Chocolate City ) started to rhyme themselves in the 70's .
No offence , but rhytmically talking seems still to have to lick it's wounds from being attacked or misunderstood .
The gang & ghetto-wars seem to have thrown some salt in the game , cause the early rap-scene was more focussed on music while still social & economical problems were presented by some ( The Message / Public Enemy / etc. )

Anyone with a sense of rhythm can rap confused
as opposed to playing an intrument and creating the funk wink

Yeah , in some sense , but the creativity to rhyme in freestyle ( improvise ) WITHOUT have written any lyrics before is very underestimated , as is the way of how one picks up the vibe to get a certain flow .

snoop's a long long way from being the most imaginative, diverse or technically accomplished rapper out there but he's definitely got that natural sense of funk about him

I'm not overly familiar with Snoop's music, but before he started recording music with live instruments he used to go the traditional "G-Funk" way of sampling old P-Funk records and miscellaneous, right? barf I seriously can't stand that shit.

most of that stuff was not samples, it was a replay with a live band. Most of the time the only thing synthetic were the drums.
