GIVING PROPS TO: DAVINA

How many of you soulsters remember this sista? She debuted in 98 with a bangin' album "Best of Both Worlds" and I she also covers Gershwin's "I Was Doing All Right" on a tribute album to Gershwin (Red Hot + Rhapsody: The Gershwin Groove CD) and she does it major justice! Great, smoky voice, that, like most in her genre (Neo Soul), didn't get the ink or promotion it deseved.

She had jams like "Come Over To My Place", "So Good", and "My Cryin' Blues." She also does a nice cover of MJ's "I Can't Help It." If you can find this gem of an album I highly suggest scooping it up, it's damn good.

Much, much love to Davina.

I bought this as soon as I heard 'Come Over To My Place'. She was one of the first so-called 'Neo-Soul' artists that radio couldn't find a place for.

"So Good" was my favorite song and video when it was released. I always wondered what happened to her and I actually thought about her not long ago when searching on youtube.

Yeah, I think that chick is from the Bay Area, Oakland I think. Try Amazon or CD Baby and you can hear snippets of Davina.

Whoah, Yeah, I remember Davina!...I was listening to her album again, not too long ago, and was wondering what happened to her.....this record dropped around the same time as Brigette McWilliams' second album, Too Much Woman, and Laurnea's 'Betta Listen' album....

Briggette's album was nice, too. Laurnea is my GIRL! I have her The Collection and it's one of the best "Best Of's" I've ever owned!

I used to kill Best Of Both Worlds back in college...it's a shame she never got on like she should've. The So Good remix with Raekwon was a banger! And I still think she's done the best MJ cover to date in I Can't Help It. thumbs up!
