Elton John hip-hop album

The apocalypse is upon us....from the Atlanta-Journal Constitution/AP

Elton John Wants to Make Hip-Hop Album
LOS ANGELES — Goodbye yellow brick road, hello hip hop.

Elton John tells Rolling Stone magazine that he wants to record a hip-hop album with Grammy-winning producer Dr. Dre.

"I want to work with Pharrell, Timbaland, Snoop, Kanye, Eminem and just see what happens," John says in the Sept. 7 issue. "It may be a disaster, it could be fantastic, but you don't know until you try."

The 59-year-old says he is a fan of Blackstreet's "No Diggity" and Tupac Shakur's "California Love."

"I want to bring my songs and melodies to hip-hop beats," John says. "I love these beats, but I have no idea how to get them.

John performed Eminem's song "Stan" with the rapper during the 2001 Grammy awards.

John's new album, "The Captain and the Kid," is due in September.

I already know it's going to suck.
It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

Elton saying "fo shizzle"...what's wrong with that lol

Imagine "Rocket Man" to a Dr. Dre beat. That will really get the hip-hop heads excited.

Worst yet, imagine a "blinged" out Elton at his mansion with half naked man-servants taking the place of the average video model sipping on a glass of Dom Perignon:lol:

This thing has disaster written all over it. The machismo of certain elements of the hip-hop community will prevent this idea from truly seeing the light of day. The best thing for all of us will be that, this idea stays dead.

Legends should not always try to push the envelope, especially as a rocker branching into hip-hop. His flirtation with this idea pretty much sums up the musicianship in the "hip-hop" genre. It has become so cookie cutter and formulaic, that anyone can do it.

He's at least aware it could be a disaster. I'm just interested to see how this goes.

Unless Elton has been under a rock, that kind of hip-hop is played out.

I agree. But the type of mainstream listeners stuck on 2pac and Dre (etc.) might disagree.

Well in Eltons defense being a longtime fan, Elton is always doing things like this, I mean he did the disco thing, he also did that awful "Duets" record, which including the classic Elton and Rupual duet(good lord!), and how can i forget "Leather Jackets" easily his worst record and possibly one of the worst in my lifetime of CD's i have bought. So Elton doing this doesnt surprise me, or at least wanting to do it, I mean jesus he sang with the Muppets and wrote songs for Animated Tigers, cut him some slack, at 59 i think he's earned the right to what the hell he wants.

This is ridiculous disbelief

I'm getting sick and tired of seeing Old School artists trying to jump on the hip-hop bandwagaon. They think they're being cool and hip,but in reality,it just makes them look silly and desperate.Elton John doing a hip-hop album?

falloff this sounds like a joke, but sadly,I think he's serious eek

Yeah,he has a long history of doing embarassing records lol

He's runnning low on inspiration these days,so I guess he feels like "what the hell? Might as well do hip-hop".Still,it's a stupid idea lol

Well first its just an idea that hes thinking of, second his new CD "the captain and the kid" is out Spet 19th and its just straight Piano and Vocal and is supposed to be a sequel to his "Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy" album from 1974 which was the first album to debut at number 1 ever, its funny, now everything debuts at Number 1.

it's like 1979 all over again--you know how well-established artists tried to hop on the disco wagon then in order to appear hip...

Christ, if the likes of William Shatner and Paris Hilton can put out albums then why can't Elton do hip-hop? I'd rather listen to Elton try his hand at hip/hop than listen to most of the talentless shit that's out there today.
