Us black folks have been so dogged out, denigrated, beat on, oppressed, (insert any adjective you see fit) throughout the course of our history in this country, that in order to make ourselves feel better or special and forget our original ancestry, which America takes great delight in making us feel ashamed of, love to associate ourselves with other cultures. By the way, I'm mixed with Cherokee and Irish. Whoop dee damn doo.

Me, Beyonce and most Black Americans, are just that - black. She needs to stop trippin'. I guess this issue still gets me heated.

You hit it right on the head! Let's face it most peopel are "mixed" with someting else but why do we feel a need to express it like taht? Is it because we want acceptance from other races? Will it make us seem "less black"? She should be proud of her heritage but it could read as something else to some of us. It almost seems like she's asying she's a bit better for being creole and lighter skinned.

Former DC member Farrah said Beyonce was the only one who didn't lay out on the beach with the girls. She always stayed inside. hmmm Guess she was hiding from the sun. The blonde hair was only a matter of time.

Beyonce is not the brightest bulb in the box. We all know that. That's why this song isn't making the CD. It was a bad idea in a time where people are so rigorous politically correct that it will be received negatively even though its not meant to be. Let's just let this die. Its kinda wrong to diss unreleased music. There's usually a reason its unreleased.
Ironically, "I Can't Take No More" - an unreleased song from her last CD - is probably my favorite song by her. biggrin

If you recall, the first two said the same thing as well but they said it was because they wanted Beyonce to stand out more....if you look at their early vids...b's hair got lighter and lighter...Letoya, who was sorta light brown, had a nice ole tan.

I didn't know the other 2 said that but to me it's just an excuse because a person who has it, is gonna stand out regardless. She was already pretty much the lead singer.

it wasn't about that. It was that so when you looked at a pic, you would notice Beyonce first. I dont think it was about excuses but that they said that tina and the dad wanted beyonce to stand out more.

I believe them. shrug

Actually, Wendy Williams asked Letoya about that on her show a few months back because it was FARRAH that was saying such things. Letoya said that they were never made to tan at all during her time in the group. She had no clue where Farrah was coming from with that.

Yeah, I remember the interview with Farrah where she said at the time both she and Michelle were sent to tanning salons, while Beyonce and Kelly were not (Kelly is already dark skinned).

Also, she mentioned how she (Farrah), Michelle, and Kelly all had to change their names because their real names were "too ethnic", yet BEYONCE and SOLANGE didn't have to change their names. Again it was to make BEYONCE stand out from Kelly, Michelle, and Farrah.

Boy I tell ya, Black American slavery was a dinger. So many view Black American slavery as simply servitude, but as we can see today, it was FAAAARRR bigger than that.

I have asked this question before, but I seriously wonder if Beyonce would have achieved the level of success she has enjoyed with regard to commericals and even record sales, if she and Kelly Rowland shared the same dark skin tone? I have believed from the very beginning that a large part of her success is due to her light skin, blonde wigs, and big butt. She can hold a tune yes, but is she all that much more talented than Kelly or even Letoya Luckett? The thought of Beyonce being in the history books with Gladys Knight, Patti Labelle, Aretha Franklin, Roberta Flack, Whitney Houston and Chaka Khan, makes me cringe. Shucks, I personally don't believe Beyonce could have survived American Idol, yet she gets all types of praise for her vocal ability. The props Beyonce gets for vocals should go to Kelly Price, Kelly Clarkson, and Faith Evans.

Sorry for the rant.
I am convinced Beyonce's career would not be where it is, if she had dark skin.

By the way, I saw a interview with Tina Knowles where she was asked about the tanning bed allegation. She confirmed it was true but said it was done to blend in better with Farrah and Michelle's new hair color.

I personally did not buy that reasoning, but at least she didn't deny it.

Well, I'm Creole and I'm definately black. All creole is is a mixture of black and french. On my mother's side of the family, most everyone is from Louisiana, which is where many creole's come from. I'm not color struck or caught up in all of that shit, cuz people are people. My father's mother was half Native Indian as was my mother's father. So, Native Indian and Creole are in my racial heritage BUT I am still black.

Now, I don't really have a comment, but a question. I always heard that when people said they were "black" that took into account much of the race mixing that occurred. Can anyone shed any light on this?

I was first told about this by a friend who is from Africa and does not like hearing the term African American being used for people who are not straight from Africa, but for people such as Beyonce and others on this board.

Come on yall! There is nothing wrong with honoring your heritage - it does not always have to mean your pretending to be anything-- I am a black woman - When I fill out by application I put African- American --- However, My Grandmother on my father's side is a full Cherokee and Grandfather on my mother's side is a full Cherokee and if I'm going to honor the ancestry of my African forefathers and what they went through as slaves it would be dead wrong for me to deny my Grandparents heritage because they went through the SAME THING they were booted off their land and slaughtered when they didn't want to comply so I don't give a FUCK what people say - I KNOW who my family is and I love them dearly and my children will know their past and when people walk in my house theyt will see my past HONORED - So, if you think I'm trying not to be black or whateva you wanna say Fuck it and you! -- I'm sure Beyonce' feels the same way!
