desert island records

imagin you must spend the rest of your life on a desert island
with only 5 CDs. which ones do you choose?

maybe it's not your top 5 exactly! Remember, you have to spend
a lot of time alone with only this music...

soooo?

mine is:

prince -- sign o the times
the congos -- heart of the congos
carl craig -- more songs about food and revolutionary art
dj shadow -- entroducing
stevie wonder -- secret life of plants

why can't i just bring my mp3 player? it's smaller than five cds, and if i were stranded on a desert island, i'd probably be clutching it to my chest anyway.

of course, the batteries are gonna die eventually, and there's nowhere on the island to charge it up. mad

anyway. i thought of 'the beatles' (white album) and laurie anderson's 'bright red' album then i couldn't think of any others and decided to try a smartypants answer, but that didn't go so well.

hi!

yes, but it's much harder for me to cop out from the question! lol

ok, ok -

1. the beatles (white album)
2. bright red - laurie anderson
3. a thousand leaves - sonic youth
4. bowie at the beeb - david bowie
5. come - prince

i opted for albums that i felt like i could listen to a million times and still feel like i need to know them better still...except perhaps for 'come', which i included cuz i know i'd need some prince, and i never ever get tired of this album.

Rahsaan's debut album was the BEST Neo Soul album never heard! Go check that out again! TOO many good cuts on that album to be considered bland.

you've got a point. a woman whose most successful album was produced by nile rodgers, a group whose biggest hit featured chuck d. and a singer who gave luther vandross his first big break couldn't have ANYthing going on in the groove department. they might as well be telephone operators. wink
