I think some of you mf's are doing more "intellectualizing" instead of experiencing his shit, so eager to criticize it & not letting yourself feel it at all.

Whatever, I'm just glad I'm finally seeing this dude. He's great exclaim

I've seen Hunt live here in Boston. He's boring. Sexy band, however. As far as "intellectualizing" music - that's what I do. That's partially how I function as a musician. Sorry. Wait...no, I'm not sorry.

And yes, minneapolisfreak, I'm quoting myself to shut you up!!

rolleyes I'm with you, namepeace. Both albums are great, but OTJF is better. It's definitely album of the year for me thus far.

RhonDab (lol), you might like "What Can I Say (For Millicent)." I think that's my favorite song on the debut. "Hello, Goodbye" is another great one that hasn't been mentioned.

I don't know who I love more - you or Alonzo's FINE ASS in yo avatar kiss2 YES, both of those songs are GREAT!! I really really LOVE "What Can I Say"... & "Hello, Goodbye" is one of those that creep up on yo ass - you find yourself singing it & skipping to it on the cd nod

The problem I have with an artist like Van Hunt is that while he may sound different from the typical soul artist, he's not particularly original. He sounds like someone emulating -- not influenced by -- other artists. To me, he comes off as somewhat of a more soul music version of Van Morrison.

See, I completely disagree. IMO, Van sounds like he's comfortable with his influences, but he's doing his own thing. shrug

I think everybody concedes that Hunt isn't a fantastic performer. I think his greatest talent is in his songwriting. I sense a creativity, and a poetic streak in his lyrics.

And his band memberettes are cute to death.

I am just now feeling Van Hunt, I had to hear him a few times...I see so many different artists in him it make it tough to judge him...I do see a good amount of Lenny K's first 2 cds in Hunt, and the fact that he hasnt found his vocal note hurts him some..but other than that I am a hooked on the dude now...I even see some John Oates in him and before people clown listen to his solo CD it will shock you eek

I ain't reading all of this but I love Van Hunt, the second album over the first particularly Hot Stage Lights.

Haven't seen him live, don't really need to. On The Jungle Floor is the only album that has excited me this year.

highfive

I feel the same.

As for people saying his emulating other artists, what the hell do you think music is? Every generation for the last 800 years expands or changes the music that has come before.

The thing is to make it your own but the ability to hear the influence. As a musician the influence of people I've listen to my whole life is going to be heard, it's just how you make it your own.

With 7 notes Van Hunt has made me feel him while I hear Curtis, Clinton, Prince and a few other. Lenny Kravitz on the other hand is another story disbelief (and I'm a fan)

I dug Van's album more than 3121.

No artist creates in a vacuum, of course -- they all have been influenced on some level by other acts. But the outstanding artists add their own creative flair and mix it in with those influences to create something distinctive.

However, I haven't heard anything distinctively creative about Van Hunt's music. Maybe that will develop over time like it has with some artists, but I have yet to hear it.
THE TRAFFIC JAMMERS, The Org's house band: VAINANDY -- lead singer; NAJEE -- bass; THE AUDIENCE -- guitar; PHUNKDADDY -- rhythm guitar; ALEX de PARIS -- keyboards; Da PRETTYMAN -- keyboards; FUNKENSTEIN -- drums. HOLD ON TO YOUR DRAWERS!

I only listened to 3121 twice. (sort of) lol I couldn't even get through it all actually.

I never heard the 1st C.D.. I am shocked at how talented this cat is. His music is addictive. I dig the Hell out of 'Character'. I love the Curis Mayfield sound the brotha brings to his shit. The man is a Breath of Fresh air. Hopefully his first CD is as good or better. I'll but it this weekend.

Worship? This thread is devoted to Van Hunt because we all appreciate him as an artist. I've seen the same type of threads and admiration for TTD. Take a chill pill dude.
