IDLEWILD Soundtrack

Hey Ya'll. My daughter got the IDLEWILD soundtrack, by OUTKAST this weekend. It is really good. I read some reviews of the movie and it'z being compared 2 Purple Rain ALOT. I haven't seen the movie yet. I listened all weekend n it does have 'some' kind of feel 2 it that I can see where people compare it 2 Prince.

What I really would like 2 know is if anyone else has heard it? If so, did u hear the "BOB GEORGE" voice on @least 1 of the trax? It may b on more than one,but it is definetly on one of them. So what do ya'll think hmmm Later on 0)+>

If Idlewild, the soundtrack, is being compared to Prince, then Prince wasn't all that dope to begin with (and we all know that that ain't the case). There are two tunes on it that I imagine Andre 3000 being inspried by Prince, but c'mon y'all! - Prince was a polished, innovative musician and songwriter. Andre 3000's got an iota of Prince's talent. Music is like sports; in basketball, everybody's looking to anoint the next Michael Jordan (Harold Miner, anyone?). It seems that in music, everybody's looking to anoint the next Prince. Imitation can be performed by any schmoe; it takes talent and hard work to be an original. Honestly, for some reason, I'm personally offended by this talk of Idlewild sounding like Prince. Outkast will go down as the seminal hip-hop duo of our times, but now we're slighting Prince's legacy for the sake of honoring hip-hop stretching out artistically?

Regarding the album, it's mostly a boring affair, save three or four jams and a stumble by my favorite ATLiens.

you could almost always hear the George Clinton/Prince influence in Outkast music, that is nothing new. The earlier stuff, which people don't know had a Curtis Mayfield vibe, songs like "mainstream" from atliens

In fact on my myspace page I placed these songs back to back on my playlist because they have the same vibe: Outkast feat. Macy Gray - Greatest Show On Earth, George Clinton - Pot Sharing Tots from Computer Games. I don't think anybody is trying to say they are just as innovative as Prince, they just like hearing the obvious influence.

I dunno man,...I've been reading some reviews and some posts here in this board and it's a bit disheartening - I can't believe that "vibes" from Outkast are getting compared to songs composed, produced, arranged and performed by Prince. Catch my drift?

But you're right - nobody has said that they're just as innovative (but aren't they, in hip-hop terms?) as Prince. I should cool my jets.

Of course WE know that OUTKAST will NEVER b what our man is,duh. Iwas just courious 2 see waht ya'll thought of waht'z being said. I do give OUTKAST some credit though (yeah I'm bias..alwayz try 2 support the homiez music). I know that they are both huge Prince fanz as well. Andre was @ the last show that Prince did here n the spring with Tamar. I'll see the movie first n then go from there as far as the whole PR comparison goes. Later on 0)+>

Well, going by the hyberbolic posts around here, one could easily think otherwise. And you don't have to be an asshole - I admitted that I needed to calm down a bit.

I have the soundtrack, and I saw the movie. Although I do like the album, I wouldn't compare it to Prince. Different stuff- to me. I just like it. music
Why are we always trying to compare, anyway? "Prince vs. everyone..."
The only similarities I see are that musicians made a movie in which they sing the songs on the soundtrack.

The movie? I saw it Friday and I still don't know if I liked it. I didn't hate it, although it seemed long. I think they tried to do 2 completely different stories within one movie to let both guys live out their "visions"- thus a long movie with too much "stuff". My sister argues that it was "good for a 1st attempt", but I think that that's not enough for what we pay for movies. shrug Like I said- I didn't hate it.

IDLEWILD has gotten heavy play in my CD player since Tuesday, but they ain't Prince. yes

"Love Hurts.
Your lies, they cut me.
Now your words don't mean a thing.
I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..."

The soundtrack is okay. It's typical Outkast stuff, I still prefer the previous double album "Speakerboxxx/The Love Below" over "Idlewild"....and it's so funny because when i came home from watching the movie, I just all of a sudden went looking for the Speakerboxx/Love Below album...
confused
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I liked the album, but it wasn't really worth the wait nor the hype. Some of the weaker songs like Mutron Angel needed to be omitted and some of the best songs like Chronomentrophobia need to be a little more longer. It's a pretty good album, but it doesn't reach the heights of masterpieces like Aquemini, ATLiens, Stankonia, or even Speakerboxxx/The Love Below.

I just got this this weekend. I think it's really good. Not up to par as the last one, but certianly as enjoyable and in the same vein. I think they are certainly moving away from the hip-hop but staying rooted in their sound. There is still rap, but the music backing it is different. Looking at the music, I think it's a very good album and stands on it's own without trying to compare it to anything else.

They have been around for a long time. The change in sound should be expected for anyone wishing to stay with music for more than 10 years. They show the same growing pains as any group has with the music, the group and the fans.

I wouldn't say it sounds like Prince. Though it is evident Andre is heavily influenced by him and respects the ways in which Prince expanded on his sound or the R&B sound that was out in the 80's. I think there are similarities people are glomming onto...and it's more than just the music. But I don't liken a lot of their music to Prince's...a couple maybe.

this is the best Outkast album period....and part of the reason is there is no "Ms. Jackson" or "Hey Ya!" on it.....not that those songs are not great but at least you won't be hearing any of these songs every day.....best album i have purchased this year!!

Actually, what makes the Idlewild soundtrack so interesting is that there is almost nothing on here that has that "pop flair" to it. But it has the best of both worlds: one half is like a return to the Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik style and another half is the current Stankonia and Speakerboxxx/The Love Below style, even though mostly everything on here is based on 1930's blues music.

Have you even listened to Aquemini, ATLiens, or Southernplayalistic? If you haven't, you have to jump on them and I bet your opinion will eventually change.

For one thing, it's the most challenging one they have made.
