Again, I have to say, where is political Janet? You're trying to say to me this woman has nothing to say about what is going on in the world anymore? Damn...Very dissapointing.

After the whole SuperBowl/Nipplegate disaster, now would have been the perfect time for Janet to switch gears and go in a whole new direction...you know, change the subject...take the focus OFF her boobs lol but if these songs titles (and her recent magazine covers) are any indication,it looks like she'd rather remain focused on sex.

I think she has at least one more great album in her....This isn't it. She might have to escape JD and even Jimmy and Terry before anything really good comes out of her.

I hate to continue the negativity here, but, what the hell...

With prior Janet albums, I refused to listen to the leaked songs. I wanted to hear the album as a whole; I vividly remember camping out and being the first person in my hometown to buy All For You. The only song I allowed myself to hear before Damita Jo hit stores was Just a Little While; bought that album the minute it hit the shelves.

I've heard all three leaked songs from Janet's new CD already, and I can say that I am going to download all of the songs before this album drops so I can even see if it's worth my $9.99. I've spent so much money on Janet throughout the years that this should be another automatic purcahse on the first day release, but I can honestly say that, at this point, I don't even care about completing the collection.

I can't believe how far down my list Janet has fallen; hell, I heard 'So Excited' about a week ago and didn't even keep the mp3 on my computer. I finally downloaded it again today; still can't believe this is her second single. 'Enjoy' is nothing but pleasant filler. 'Call on Me' is probably her weakest single yet. What the hell is she thinking? It's like she's pulling a Prince and purposely sabotaging her career. Really makes me think that Renee Elizando had a lot more to do with her career than we're lead to believe.

I agree with what you said about Rene Elizondo. It would seem that he DID have a lot more to do with her career-songwriting, image, videos, promotion, etc.-than many of us want to believe. Her songs have not had the same spark since he left and neither have her videos. Her last two albums were terrible and this happened after they broke up. We will just have to wait and see if that cycle will be broken. Her new album may surprise everyone, but her first single completely turned me off.

Good gawd. confused I've heard 2 songs from this album, and both are terrible.

I still maintain the last great album she put out was Rhythm Nation. And the last great song she did was "Scream" with Mike.

Rhythm Nation is one of my all time fav albums, but Velvet Rope is a great album.
All for You only had a few good tracks, but I really loved the singles Doesn't matter & All for you(great tune!) and Damita Jo just wasn't a Janet-album.
Only liked Just a little while.
I think, that's just the way it goes with artists, succes and inspiration fades....

I disagree. The weakest thing about "All For You" was the fact that it wasn't varied musically much (that was the album she needed new producers on). I think "Damita Jo", on the other hand, is kind of all over the place musically (although it's an attempt to capture (or possibly recapture) the modern R&B audience and only giving a wink to the pop supporters. And the songwriting was her weakest ever (too many cooks in the kitchen certainly didn't help with lyrics, BTW!). I think "Damita Jo" is her only post-"Control" album that is really troubling...to date! Something tells me we can expect "Damita Jo Part 2", without an attempt at funky dance pop, the stongest thing about "Damita Jo".

"Damita Jo" wasn't a Janet album....a very good way of putting it. Even on one of the strongest tracks ("Slo Love"), it doesn't feel like Janet! Still, I think Janet still has a great album in her, once she wises up.

Scorpion

She does once she gets rid of JD whose only concern musically is how well it will do on the charts.
tho' I battled blind
love is a fate resigned
memories mar my mind
love it is a fate resigned

Over futile odds
and laughed at by the Gods
and now the final frame
Love is a losing game

What ever happened to Rene anyway? I always have read about how fans miss him--that had a positive influence on Janet professionally and her career hasn't been the same since their split. But what has he done since Janet? One would think if he were so talented and even passionate, he would have continued with some other artist as well?

I have to agree with the criticism about JD though. I'm really trying to give the guy some support because he is at least trying to communicate with the fans. At least the guy is trying to generate some buzz. He is the one who goes to the official site with updates. Janet just leaves official messages. I think that's weird in a way--that she can't take a minute to chat with the fans even though some of em can be a bit nuts. JD makes the effort at least.

So as much as I'm lukewarm about JD, I think it's Janet who is responsible for her own lack of success of late. Really ever before the success of All4You, I have gotten this feeling that she is just going through the motions. I really wonder if she has the desire to even be in music anymore. She has always said she wanted to be an actress first. Maybe she should be more assertive to move in that direction because it just doesn't appear that Janet herself has the desire to be in music. Everyone around her has the desire or has had the desire. (I remember reading that Janet had to be talked in to touring with All4You even.) But Janet-- no. She should do something really brave like trying to be in an off-Broadway show or something. Isn't that how Cher ultimately broke into acting? Wasn't Cher in Come Back to the Five and Dime Jimmy Dean? Maybe Janet should take a risk in another completely different direction?

I have to agree. On a handful of the DJ tracks and the two singles I heard off the new album, she sounds bored as hell and it sounds like she seriously wants to get back into the movies. Wouldn't be the biggest mistake ever. If it doesn't work out, she'll possibly find her love for music again. It it works out, I don't see her abandoning music but I do think she might put some effort into it.
