Najee said: Greetings, all.I have practically all of Cameo's albums on compact disc, and followed their careers from the late 1970s until their run ended in the early 1990s. IMO, their best overall album was 1982's "Alligator Woman." As someone previously stated, "Alligator Woman" marked a decided departure in Cameo's style. Their music went from a brass, horn-heavy funk to the introduction of new wave elements in a more streamlined, tighter sound that paved the way to songs like "She's Strange," "Word Up!" and "Candy."
IMO, "Alligator Woman" was the closest Cameo came to making a complete album. The first single, "Be Yourself," "Flirt" and the title track were creatively edgy and songs like "Enjoy Your Life" and "Soul Army" enjoyed new twists on styles typically associated with Cameo.Of all the Cameo albums on CD I own, I personally treasure being able to own "Alligator Woman" on CD because I have yet to see it available anywhere else in a music store or online. Evidently, it's out of print and when I show it to friends who are huge Cameo fans they comment how they have never seen it on CD form. Hi Najee.I totally agree with you...'Alligator Woman' is Cameo's masterpiece.I love that album! | |
