Hanks and Madonna Re-Team for Mamma Mia!

Despite reports that she has given up pursuing a film career ( Does Madonna Ever Give Up?) the lastest gossip in Tinsel Town says the superstar has got her eyes set on the movie version of the smash-hit musical Mamma Mia.

As reported earlier this year, Madonna has seen the musical Mamma Mia eight times in London´s West End, and now it´s clear that she was in fact combining business with pleasure. The Material Girl feels that the lead character, the strong hard-working mother Donna who´s in her forties, is the perfect part for her.


ABBA´s Bjorn and Benny expressed their admiration for the Dancing Queen earlier this year, after allowing her to sample their 1979 song Gimme Gimme (A Man After Midnight) for her new hit single Hung Up. The Swedes said in a statement that although they rarely allow samples of their songs, there was no question this time around. ” We said yes this time because we admire Madonna so much and always have done. She has got guts and has been around for 21 years. That is not bad going. It is a wonderful track, 100% solid pop music."

The film version of Mamma Mia will be set on a Greek island, and follows Donna and her daughter Sophie´s quest for Sophie´s father. The feel-good comedy is sure to be a success once it hits the big screen, at least if the stage musical´s ratings are anything to go by. It is currently the biggest show in the world, being played all around the world, from Osaka, Japan to Las Vegas, USA.

Michelle Pfieffer had been producers first choice for the lead but her recent signing to the film version of HAIRSPRAY opens this role up for Madonna- who worked with the producer successfully in the past- Actor Tom Hanks in her Blockbuster " A League of Their Own". Madonna has alos been selling ABBA'S GOLD CD at her concert concession stands and recreates part of their Iconic Wardrobe choices for her perfomance of Lucky Star on her Confessions Tour perhaps priming her fans for ABBA'S music that creates the soundtrack

I'm not sure if it's true but she likes to do these obscure projects on the side. I'd personally like her to get back in the studio.
