Oasis Members Hurt in Taxi Crash
Wed Aug 7, 8:42 AM ET

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Three members of the British rock band Oasis are recovering after being hurt in a car crash.

The musicians were in a taxi Tuesday afternoon when it was involved in a head-on collision with another vehicle in downtown Indianapolis.

Noel Gallagher, Andy Bell and Jay Darlington were taken by ambulance to a hospital, where they were treated for shock, cuts and bruises, according to a statement issued early Wednesday by concert promoter Clear Channel Entertainment.

Gallagher, who was sitting in the front of the taxi, suffered heavy facial bruises and seat belt cuts. Darlington, a keyboard player, injured a hand and was to return to the hospital for further treatment on Wednesday.

Doctors have ordered the musicians to rest for two days to let medication take effect, the statement said.

The band was scheduled to play Wednesday evening at the Murat Theatre, but that concert has been postponed. Fans were advised to keep their tickets until the show can be rescheduled, the statement said.

Oasis became wildly popular in the mid-1990s. Their 1995 album "(What's the Story) Morning Glory?" debuted at No. 1 in the U.K. and became the second-best selling album in British history.

Oasis Nixes Concert After Car Crash
Wed Aug 7, 1:50 PM ET
By Josh Grossberg

Talk about a bumpy ride for Oasis.

In Indianapolis for a concert Tuesday, three members of the once ubiquitous, always volatile British rock band--guitarist Noel Gallagher, keyboardist Jay Darlington and bassist Andy Bell--suffered minor injuries when their cab crashed into an oncoming vehicle.

"Three members of Oasis were involved in a car accident Tuesday afternoon in downtown Indianapolis," reads a statement on the band's Website. "A taxi they were traveling in was involved in a head-on collision with another vehicle. All three members...were taken to the hospital by ambulance, where they were treated for shock and cuts and bruises."

Noel's younger brother and Oasis lead singer, Liam Gallagher, was not with his bandmates at the time of the accident.

According to doctors, Gallagher, who was riding in the front seat, sustained seatbelt cuts and heavy facial bruises. Darlington was treated for an injury to his hand and was supposed to return to the hospital for further care. Bell declined treatment.

All three musicians were given medicine and told to take it easy for two days before returning to the stage.

As a result of the crash, Oasis had to cancel its concert at Indianapolis' Murat Theater slated for Wednesday night. Promoters have told fans to hold on to their tickets for an as-yet-unscheduled make-up date.

The car crash is the latest nonmusical episode involving the band, which has become better known over the past years for the band's unruly behavior than its music.

Fueled by the Gallagher brothers' constant bickering, Oasis has been on the verge of imploding ever since they hit their commerical and critical heyday with 1995's (What's the Story) Morning Glory. The band's second album was a multiplatinum worldwide smash (it eventually became the second best-selling British rock album of all time), and the Gallaghers proclaimed themselves the saviors of rock 'n' roll--at least when they weren't making headlines for their advocacy of drug use, legal problems, marriages and divorces, concert cancellations, lineup changes and fights with fans and each other.

The band's 1997 follow-up, Be Here Now, and 2000's Standing on the Shoulders of Giants, both underwhelmed on the sales charts.

And despite decent reviews, their most recent album, Heathen Chemistry, debuted last month at a tepid number 23 on the album charts.

Even before the Indy car crash, the band's current tour has seemed snakebit. The trek got off to a rocky start in Fort Lauderdale last Friday when Liam walked off the stage after four tunes, telling the crowd his voice was giving out due to the long transatlantic flight.

They soldiered on with Noel handling the vocals. He and the band covered Neil Young's "Hey, Hey, My My" followed by a seven-song acoustic set, which concluded with "Wonderwall"--the band's biggest hit and a song they had vowed never to perform again in concert.

Oasis is due to resume the tour this Friday at Philadelphia's Tower Theater.

Just proves how we all can have completely different opinions on music.

Love Oasis...especially live. I am seeing them in a couple of weeks (hopefully, if the band is ok) and is the highlight of the summer for me.
