It all depends people. If Elton is just going to sing while someone else raps, It might work. But if Elton is going to spit some fire, Forget it! What kind of rhymes could a 59 year old gay white man come up with? lol lol lol lol

Elton saying "fo shizzle"...what's wrong with that lol

Imagine "Rocket Man" to a Dr. Dre beat. That will really get the hip-hop heads excited.

Worst yet, imagine a "blinged" out Elton at his mansion with half naked man-servants taking the place of the average video model sipping on a glass of Dom Perignon:lol:

This thing has disaster written all over it. The machismo of certain elements of the hip-hop community will prevent this idea from truly seeing the light of day. The best thing for all of us will be that, this idea stays dead.

Legends should not always try to push the envelope, especially as a rocker branching into hip-hop. His flirtation with this idea pretty much sums up the musicianship in the "hip-hop" genre. It has become so cookie cutter and formulaic, that anyone can do it.

If that's the case, then all of us at the Org should be making some money from our beats now!
lol

Ottensen

Actually I think it's funny and hilarious and am not rubbed the wrong way by it at all: I simply see an old man approaching the age when most normal folks are booted out of the workplace and they look for something "interesting" to do, to keep themselves busy and try to feel vital still. Kind of like the rock and roller's way to metaphorically take up rock climbing, take a watercolor class, or start weekly bocce ball games with the younger people in the neighborhood. Not to say that I don't think such a project would sound Gawd-awful, but from a larger perspective I totally see why he would be inclined to try such a thing...he's 60, it's time for him to start to experiment with all manner of kooky things since "retirement", or at least semi-retirement is not long around the bend for someone his age lol

I'll always assumed he was a computer.. who berny (ie?) just inserted his disk into (the very well running computer, in terms of singing and piano playing) and he just went on and on repeated the smarts of another mans art.

Now this computer formed some brain.. decided to speak up..

and now he wants to do a freakin hip hop..

whats funny is he chose to say this at possibly (imo) the worst state in hip hop.. musically..

so join in, i'm sure those cool young kids are gonna go for some deep, over the top lyrics and singing by elton..

Well at the time of that album, wasn't he on drugs (everyone blames disco on drugs). I'm not sure what he is thinking here, either. He once joked at his new album was hardcore techno (this was when Prodigy was big). I guess I can understand updating his sound....but working with Snoop?

This may be the closest match to the Ethel Merman Disco Album.

You read my mind. It was folks like Ethel Merman who were considered "uncool" by young people that helped contribute to the death of disco. I'm glad to see that Elton John wants to make a shit hop album because he is definately considered "uncool" by the shit hop crowd....and Lord knows how homophobic these rappers are. While we're at it, where's Barbara Streisand? She needs to make one too. Hell, is Carol "Hello Dolly" Channing still alive? Get these people in the studio with some drum machines quick! lol

You have no idea how on point you are.

I was telling my friend who's an emcee that DJ Premier of GangStarr was doing beats on the new Christina Aguilera album, and we were saying how DJ Premier is so consistant he could produce ANYONE and it wouldn't be wack.

The emcee goes "man DJ Premier could produce Elton John and could make it good" - like that was the uncoolest artist he could think of. neutral

I forwarded him this newsstory. thumbs up!

With the rappers, it's not so much about Elton John being "uncool" like maybe someone like Barbara Streisand, but more of their hatred of gay people. They have an extreme hatred of gay men but I would say maybe 80% of them would either fuck or get their dick sucked by another man....hey, a nut's a nut. People never believe me when I talk about these type of men but just look at the prisons. Those aren't exactly limp wristed sissies in there raping people.
