Michael Jackson, a man who can't play a single instrument, did that with songs like Billie Jean, and by inventing his own style of dance. Only in the musical and cultural wasteland of the last 10 years could she have got such a substantial career with such unremarkable tunes. Unlike you though, I really like her voice. Although it seems that lately it doesn't matter WHO writes the songs that make the whole world sing: the artist themselves or someone else. Most of them are still crap IMO. Where's Barry Manilow when you need him?
