I'm not a huge fan of Miss B, though I found Dangerously in Love decent and a good listen. However, B-Day is unbearable. It's like she's screaming on every track. Like her voice is strained. How could she releasethis? [Edited 8/26/06 6:24am]

I just listened to Justin's whole new album. I must say I'm a bit disappointed; there are far too many ballads, too much Timbaland, the lyrics are infantile, Timberlake's singing mannerisms reveal his boyband heritage. No way can the album be compared to anything by James Brown, David Bowie or Prince. First half of the disc is decent with "Sexy Ladies/Let Me Talk to You" clearly standing out (magnificent production!). I do not like the overall production of vocals which seem subdued and unclear. "Damn Girl's" drum pattern is too reminiscent of "Like I Love You". Besides, Justin doing James Brown's "awwwww" signature scream is just not right Best cuts: "FutureSex/LoveSound" (for production, I hate the melody in the chorus), "SexyBack" (for the groove), "Sexy Ladies/Let Me Talk to You" (for tremendous production, nice bass playing and some experimental Latin-sounding stuff near the end) and "My Love" (for being the only digestible ballad with nice melody). Skip this: "Losing My Way" - JT doing Jacko's "Will You Be There?". Horribly pretentious. I agree...kinda mellow..too many ballads. I was read to shake my ass. I guess nelly got the club beats and JT got the ballads?

I've listened tot he whole album a couple of times now and I can't help but comparing it to Justified. He worked much longer on this album ( a year) than he did with Justified (6 weeks), and it shows. Less spontanity (is that a word?) and a little overproduced. I think he's trying too hard.
There are some really good songs though: SexyBack, My Love, Lovestoned, Dam Girl are nice, and Sexy Ladies/Let Me Talk To You has some great moments, same with the end part of What Goes Around, although I don't like the production in the begin of the song, too poppy for my taste. The ballads are very standard though, unlike the ones on Justified. And Chop Me Up is just terrible and totally out of place. Overall it's a attractive album, but not great.

I have not interst in Beyonce's album
However I"ve listened to JT's album twice, and I have to say I like it alot. The priduction is great, I dig the soungwriting. True it's juvenile, but I hve him credit for sounding different. Even when you listen To Nelly Furtado's album, then Justin's, they both sound different even though they worked with Timbo. I like this album

I must the only one that liks it! I've become the new sexofit! I always thought you two were the same person. "I saw a woman with major Hammer pants on the subway a few weeks ago and totally thought of you." - sextonseven

Ok, first few songs into it, I really dig the production. Style over substance, but that was to be expected. But it's nice to hear that he's going into a slightly non-pop direction. Problem is, I think with all those technology and prgramming you cannot really get a real groove. That would really make me dig him - have a real live band groove mixed with those admittedly very good sounding sound fx.

Hmm, Lovestoned/I think she knows really is kinda good, you know. Funky, even.

Totally. I think there really is some nice stuff on this album, but he should be a little more adventurous with his backing vocals. Those are way too safe your-typical-modern-rnb-pop-album.

the non-neptune song that sounds like a neptunes song! Contains the best verse of the year: "Hi!My name is Bob and I work at my job..." Skips...I'm getting bored! Justin's bringing boredomBack! That's what's missing from this JT record. No Neptunes productions.Because of their dispute with Jive,The Neptunes aren't able to appear on the disc.I think it would have given the album a 3rd dimension.Don't get me wrong,I like the album amd I'm going to buy it on Tuesday, but The Neptunes are the missing ingredient in this sonic gumbo. larry luvlife
